Great video thank you! I am about to complete level 1 and have signed up for level 2. This had me nodding a lot! It's already how I feel having enjoyed level 1 and I can't wait for level 2. I'll recommend the channel to my colleagues. Microphones might help a bit, just a suggestion!

I am 51 and I'm just about to finish level 1 and have signed up for level 2. I have enjoyed every minute so far and feel excited to continue on this journey. I leaped ahead to see what I might anticipate in the future and found this video so helpful. I never knew what I wanted to do as a career and although I am a late starter, I feel that I can now, at my age, give the dedication required - I wasn't ready before. Although part of me feels sad I didn't do this earlier, I think things come to you when you're ready, or, you grasp the right things when you're ready. I can't wait to continue on this journey and I already feel I'd like to counsel perpetrators and victims. A tough one, but it links in with the psychology element I am so interested in. Thank you for this - very insightful!

But what if you know everything and just want to take the qualification assesment. Or can you buy the course and only turn UK for the qualification parts? Is there anyone that wants just the money, and will let someone get it who has a post grad qualification in this field?

Im thinking of doing Level 2 counselling online. It says Unit 4, students will be expected to provide video evidence of themselves for assessment. What sort of thing are we expected to film?
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 Жыл бұрын
Hi John, you are probably asked to provide video evidence of skills practice sessions because the course is online. Skill practice session involves you being in the role of a helper, listening to the issue of a helpee and using counselling skills. It is far better to do a counselling course where you can be in a classroom with other students. Michelle Baker

Help! I’m currently on week 6 of my level 3. I’m quite academic so not finding work difficult but as I’ve had a lot of personal trauma in my life I basically feel like I want to quit… I didn’t think I’d feel like this but am struggling with the social and emotional side . I had trauma therapy years back so am quite self aware but feel like I’m just shutting down to the course.

I have done 3 level 2 courses in other areas ive found them good but they are basic. As they takes 3, 4 months i was wondering whether to go straight to councelling level 3 or whether to start at 2. Does 3 cover alot of 2 anyway?
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 Жыл бұрын
Hello Emma, I would suggest that you start from the beginning, it’s unlikely that a college would accept you on level 3 especially if you do not have a counselling background. Doing a counselling course should not be rushed as self development and awareness is a process. If you started at level 3 then you would not have the foundation, knowledge and counselling skills that your peers would have. On level 2 you will learn the basics which will support you in progressing to level 3.

Many thanks for this video, I’ve just completed a level 3 counselling studies course. I’m hoping you can tell me is it okay to use terms and concepts like phenomenology, configurations and intersections within the external examination.
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 Жыл бұрын
Hello, you can use any term you like as long as it is relevant to the question you have been asked. Tip: be careful to use concepts belonging to the counselling approach you mentioned or that your college has stipulated, for example if your approach is person centred you would not mention concepts from other approaches. I would say keep it simple.

I forgot, I also was told that level 4 qualifies you to do agency work only
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 Жыл бұрын
I would suggest that after doing level 4 that you stay with your placement agency to gain more confidence or work within an agency setting where you can gain support and guidance before working in private practice. If you are not sure about your readiness to go it alone after working within an agency setting, post qualification, it would be good to seek advice from your clinical supervisor. As far as I know there is no rule -this is just what is often recommended.

Hi Michelle, I’m a level 2 student I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and noticed you’re likely based in South London. I grew up in SE London and have lived in Dorset for the past 5 years. I’m exploring options for finding black female support group who are also on this journey of becoming a counsellor. If you’re aware of any I’d really appreciate some leads. I’m aware of BAATN through work but it seems like they only target trainee counsellors which I’m not yet.

Is it better to not be working during the level 4? I'm not sure how intense it will be, but judging from what I've heard it seems like it'll be difficult to juggle a 9-5 (sometimes more) with studying.
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your lifestyle, family commitments etc. Some students are lucky enough to get an additional day off work to study. In an ideal world it would be great to have a day off for studying. It is a lot to juggle with clinical supervision, working in a counselling placement, personal therapy and finding the time to do assignment. I feel that you would need to be quite disciplined and resilient. If in the future you do decide to engage in a counselling diploma course, due to the amount of hours covered there is a big possibility that you may have to take a day or half day off work; if this is not possible you might be able to find a college or university that offers weekends. Best Wishes Michelle Baker

@@therapeuticworld9066 Hey Michelle, thanks for your message. So I started my Level 4 a few weeks a go and it has been quite emotionally intense for the entire class. Personally I don't like my day job and find it very hard not to get stressed/anxious about it. It's just not the right fit for me. I think it'll be beneficial if I found part time work to help focus more on the Level 4. A part of me, the inner critic, is saying you should be able to do a 9-5 and the course but I can't deny how my work makes me feel. In a bit of a conundrum. Would be great to get a feel of what other students have done. This might be something I take to my therapy as well

Hello, there are of course many colleges that teach counselling. The awarding body that I lecture under is called the CPCAB, they deliver many courses. It might be a good idea to google in the CPCAB to find a counselling course near to where you live and/or one that fits in with your routine. Tip: I would suggest an institution that offers all the levels bringing you up to being qualified, as there could be gaps in your learning if you have to change your college and unfamiliarity in the colleges way of carrying out the courses. As someone that has studied levels 2 and 3 and had to pull out of level 4 because I did not have any prior clarification of the extent of the course requirements in addition to the written and presentation side of things, this is very useful information and very timely as I intend to start level 4 this year. More information and clarity about how many hours a week you need to give for the course requirements would be very useful, as that was not answered. Thank you very much for your posting.
@therapeuticworld9066
@therapeuticworld9066 3 жыл бұрын
(Please note that the information given below may differ between institutions) On average you will need to attend college or university for 8 hours, one day a week. Additional time will need to taken out for clinical supervision, personal therapy and client work. There may be weekly assignments, such as learning reviews which needs to be completed on a weekly basis, along with additional assignments spaced out over the two years as well as theoretical reading accompanied with research. Level 4 is a big step-up from level 3, many are often surprised by this although alerted. You will need to be resilient, committed and motivated, as the course will take up a lot of your time which can be challenging at times. It is important to evaluate life circumstances before embarking on the level 4, as you need to be grounded and ready. Good luck on your level 4 Diploma in Counselling John, I hope you enjoy the journey. (Michelle Baker)
