Absolutely love sweating these out with you, especially the sweet, sweet ‘84’s! Better luck next time, buddy! Looked like a nice clean pack, which, of course, is what I’d expect from BBCE. And I’m with you, I like Collinsworth and can’t understand any criticism. Of course this one hurts the wallet a bit more than others, but I’ll say what I always like saying, keep swinging!

Love the idea of a player run, always thought about doing it with Gibby, but haven’t yet! For you, though, if it’s not going to be Mike Lavalliere, I don’t know what you’re thinking, ha! I think Ernie Banks is a great choice! He would be top 3 among your mentioned options for me, along with Nolan, and a guy you might fairly dismiss as a bit vanilla, Brooks Robinson. However, Brooks does seem universally hailed as a helluva guy, and of course, his defensive wizardry can’t be overstated. I guess I will have to get the Substack app to get in on the Chat, I didn’t know that was a thing! Anyway, really look forward to seeing the progress of an awesome run of Mr. Cub! Thanks for sharing, David.

Gibson would be a good one to do it with, since he’s a pitcher, and his cards are mostly in the inexpensive vintage years. I feel like I’m going to do Ernie Banks… then I might follow it with Frank Robinson! Years from now. Hahahaha Yeah, I don’t know what it is about Brooks, I’m just indifferent to him as a collector.

Punters for everyone. But check out the quality of those cards, they all looked great in terms of color, corners, centering, etc. for a 1984 pack. Topps could take notes today because some of the 2024 versions are not that good.

Banks is a great one to collect. I’ve collected many HOF player runs over the years. Out of all of them the funnest for me is my complete Will Clark collection. He is my absolute favorite player of all time as a Giants fanatic who grew up in Northern California in the 80’s living and dying with my Giants. I’ve got about 95% of his cards from 1986 to 1994 (I collect Giants years only). I found that collecting players I have a deep nostalgic connection with is the most rewarding versus the amazing players I never saw play. If you’ve got a player like this from your past maybe consider that? Typically when I collect a player because the hobby has dictated everyone should have their cards it’s not the same. Good luck on your journey!

*Made this comment before watching the whole video. I see you're not a fan of the guy? 🤷 In my opinion, he can be grumpy because of how MLB did him dirty with the lifetime ban. Anyone probably would be, if they had to endure a lifetime punishment for something? But he's one of the biggest advocates for baseball, and in all of the videos/interviews I've seen of him on KZfaq, he seems like a funny and easy going person, someone down to earth and approachable? Agree with you about the horrible floating heads card. The '63 Pete Rose is a ton of money in the higher grades like PSA 7 or 8! 😳 I've got one of the '62 floating heads cards, one of the leaders cards with Clemente. But only because it was cheap! 😄

Ernie Banks is a solid choice and fits your Texas locale now as he was born in Dallas. That said, I would also offer up Willie Stargell as a possible choice. Not the top guy in Pittsburgh, but a HOF player, 2 x World Series Champ, MVP, etc. Plus his 1963 Topps rookie card, SGC 6, can be found for under $400, which while expensive, is reasonable for vintage cards. The downside though, is it is the 1963 card with the 4 floating heads.

Ernie Banks is a good idea. I’m doing a run on Frank Robinson, trying to get them in a 5 or higher. Except his rookie, where I may go down to a 3.5. I have a good group of them so far, I’m doing AS cards as well and will eventually grab the league leaders and dual players too. It’s a fun project!

Binders are Definitely the way to go. I personally don't have the graded stock to get into this one, but that top loader version is personally perfect for the next project. Thanks.
