After you catch the pinfish, how do you hook them to use as bait?
@NAUTILYFE
@NAUTILYFE 12 күн бұрын
Great question! We do this a number of ways. One of our favorite ways is to use as cut bait in the hot Summer months when the fish are lazy - cut the head and tail off and trim the fins off top and bottom so it’s one streamline piece. Hook it through the back end where the tail was through both sides of skin and it’s good to go. Use a knocker rig with weight so it sits on bottom in one place so fish can find it. If we are using as live bait, there’s a couple different ways depending on fishing conditions. Fish will usually swim a certain way, depending on where they are hooked if you are casting and want to fish to swim down stream through a spot where predator fish are sitting facing the current, you want to hook them through the lips on the head. This will cause them to swim back towards the boat or shore and is a natural position for swimming with the current. If there isn’t a lot of moving water and you want the fish to swim under some structure like mangoes or a bridge hook them in the top of the back near the tail and that will cause them to swim down and away from you. If you want them to stay on the surface, usually on the bottom side of the tail will cause them to stay up in the water column and swim away.

Can you give me an idea what your fuel burn is? Best cruise, I'm guessing is around 30 mph, 40 mph. I can find the numbers with 250's and a single 425 but nothing with the 300's.
@NAUTILYFE

You are correct. Best we’ve seen is about 2.0-2.4mpg around 35 mph on calmer days. Full out she’s hit 70+ burning around 0.8-1mpg. Don’t do that often unless I am trying to get out of weather, or just well because it’s fun haha. Skipping on top of 1’-2’ chop at around 40-50 right around 1.4-1.8

@@NAUTILYFE do you know the mpg at 40? I was hoping for better than 2.0. I sold a Contender 32ST with downsizing in mind but I've determined I can't see going below 27'. I can honestly say that I really don’t watch it super closely. I’d say on a calm day at 40 probably 1.8-2. If it’s rough 1.4-1.8 ish. Lots of factors to consider as you probably are already aware. Gear, gas, people, weather etc.

I don’t intend this to be mean spirited and I understand that many of us are different. I saw the title and was interested, but noticed the length and 😮wondered how in the world can it take this long. When I click on a title about homemade chum for pinfish, I already know the subject of the video so I don’t need a long introduction within the video. If someone shows or even just tells me the ingredients and how to mix them, I can figure out how to get in Walmart and buy them, don’t need to be shown that. I can’t speak to the last half because I bailed out about midway. However, I gather from another comment there was no footage showing the chum working, but did find time to show the shopping cart rolling around Walmart. This format with all the unnecessary fluff may work well for others, but not for me. Either way, I wish you success with your channel.

@NAUTILYFE 10 ай бұрын
we absolutely love the boat - just have not been able to use it as we would have liked, hence the only 60 hours. When we were storing at Gulf Star Marina during/after hurricane Ian their crane was broken down so was stored up high and dry in their storage facility for about 3 1/2 months. This happened shortly after we took delivery in June. Then by the time they got it running late December, we only had a couple of weeks before my wife and I had our first baby boy in January, so it’s been in the water honestly two dozen times. Hate to let it go but want to sell before we put too many more hours on as its basically still a brand new boat

@@NAUTILYFECongrats on the baby boy. I have three toddlers myself and it’s one of the reasons I’m looking at the 2700 CB. I want something to take the family to the lake with, but also be able to run offshore. Have you had the boat out in any rough seas and if so, how does it handle?
@NAUTILYFE
@NAUTILYFE 10 ай бұрын
@hdaerial5823 that was one of the reasons why we picked the 2700. The forward bow seating is 6 to 10 inches more recessed than even some of the more expensive brands like Everglades for boats in the same class. Tidewater did a great job even on the 2500 it wasnt an afterthought and is super comfortable. Takes about 30 seconds to pull all cushions and back rests out and you can fish 4 to 5 guys in the front alone comfortably. I know guys that have crossed from Miami to the Bahamas in 4 to 5 foot seas. It’s definitely not comfortable and not what this boat is made for but it’ll do it. It’ll run in 1 to 2 foot chop pretty comfortably and dry too depending on how wind is blowing. That’s another thing that Tidewater is known for is the enormous bow flair. If you’re planning to have it in the lake, you’ll be able to run fully loaded down upper 60s no problem at all it is an absolute blast. we have also had it in about 18 inches of water with the trolling motor floating no problem so it can do pretty much anything you’re looking for it to do. If you shoot me an email, I can send you the listing on Facebook marketplace and you can check out all the pictures. It’s pristine. Unfortunately we do not have a trailer but our boat dealer is willing to sell one close to cost if we find a buyer that needs one.

Thanks for the recipe for the chum. I'm going to be trying it very soon in my pinfish trap. I can't help but to put in my .02 cents though. I think if you tried the sabiki where you had the chum going it would've been much better to catch bait. The snappers were lanes, you can tell by the yellow lines running down their bodies. I have one more observation/comment and it's about throwing the net. I use the same throwing style and I noticed you were throwing over the motors which makes it that much harder. That's where I would throw from considering I load my net on my left shoulder, so my idea is try putting the chum bag on the port side and throw from there. Hope you don't mind my comments and thanks again for the chum recipe!

Yes we learned our lesson here for sure. We often target redfish with cut pinfish this time of year when it’s hot and they’re lazy and they’re typically leader shy - but targeting sharks (or cats to use for sharks) we will always use our pre-tied shark rigs. I actually caught a massive gafftop sail catfish last year on a wire leader at night fishing for sharks. No joke, it was probably 12 pounds and would’ve been the FL state record but I didn’t know the state record was so low because no one really ‘targets’ catfish lol. Picture is on our Instagram page somewhere. Will definitely measure and submit if we catch it again! Appreciate the comment! And THANK YOU for subscribing! Looking forward to chatting again soon! @NAUTILYFE
@NAUTILYFE Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment glad you enjoyed! We don’t have a trailer, but I had that same question when we were storing at our marina we had a max height of 10’. That included the bunks the boat was on which was about the same height as a trailer would be. My best guess is 10’ or less but do not know for certain. We have the stock Yamaha three blade props (23 - 14-3/4) and when flat calm with some trim have hit 68mph at about 5800-5900 RPM. Know guys with 4 blade props hitting well over 70. Time to plane is insane at about 3 seconds out of the hole. Best GPH we have seen in light chop at about 35 mph cruise is around 2.8. When it is calm I have dialed it in around 35mph and getting 3.1-3.3
