That pregame fracas in the endzone was the reason ND eventually created a separate visitor's locker room entrance

always will be remembered for the one bad call (among several) that handed a cheap victory to Notre Dame. ND had no business stepping on the field with a team as talented as Miami at the time.

I was at this game as a USC fan. I remember that throughout the game Oklahoma would have 3rd and long (5 to 35 yards). And each time Oklahoma would make a first down. The USC defense would celebrate stopping OU after every first and second down play. But on third down Oklahoma would pick up the first down. I hated that SC kept celebrating because OU was blasting through them when it counted. I thought OU was the better team. But then Switzer did something odd. On the OU drive before this SC TD, OU had fourth and inches in their own territory, but it was inches, inches! I thought, OU would go for the first because they were picking up first downs with ease. But Switzer punted. 🤷 I've always blamed Switzer for not trusting his powerful offense, rather than thinking that SC outplayed OU.

The after effects of this game changed the whole football landscape Lou holzt would win his only championship, jimmy Johnson go on and build the greatest cowboys dynasty and Miami would go on and have its best four year run 89-92 in in school history winning two national championships we would get introduced to a guy named Randle the trill hill the next year the the u swagger would hit it’s all time high

Simmons saved the day, breaking up that interception. OU never brought any pressure on the drive. Soft.

Not to say the outcome would have been different, but why didn’t Affirmed’s jockey push him early? Letting a horse of Seattle Slew’s caliber set a slow pace with a 4 length lead is suicidal.

3rd down shift to center and down the ball for a 4th down straight shot fg. Smh

That 45-yard FG by Huerta to cut it to 16-10 was the forgotten moment in the game. Back in those days, even a lot of NFL kickers couldn't make kicks from that distance off a grass field (Norwood was one of many). He misses that and it's probably game over, especially after Miami went backwards on the three previous plays. Florida State would have had all the momentum.

All things being equal, a 4 year old beats a 3 year old in a weight-for-age race (e.g. Affirmed the next year against Spectacular Bid). Having said that, I believe Slew was the better horse, and a true all-timer.

Regular season games in college football will never be this massive again with the new playoff format. This was it back then. A titanic defensive battle. This 1991 FSU team was one of the best that didn't win the title. Both teams were absolutely loaded with star players. The "Golden Age" of Florida football.

Where in the game did those plays occur? I’ve heard that one of them occurred on a Miami scoring drive but can’t seem to find it; very curious to see the play and if replay would have overturned the call on the field. They left that one out of the 30 for 30😅
