Over 25 years' teaching experience, Asma? That's amazing! If you are interested in teaching in the Middle East, I'd recommend checking out this guide www.tefl.org/teach-english-abroad/middle-east/ It's includes an overview of what opportunities are available, typical requirements for teacher applicants, visas, etc.

Thanks for all of your helpful tips! I start my new job on Monday, teaching English to children from 2 to 6 years old. I am in Mexico. I am not formally trained and I am sure that I was offered this position primarily based on the fact that English is my first language. In my volunteering, I have discovered that I love being around young children and I really believe that learning English at a young age will open many doors for them in the future. Any more advice, tips, warnings, etc. will be greatly appreciated! What is the best way to begin a class? Do you have favorite ‘hello’ and goodbye’ songs that you use? How on earth will I get through to the babies, who cannot even speak in their L1 yet? Are there many differences between how 4 year olds learn and how 6 year olds learn? Meanwhile, I will continue watching your videos. 🙏🏾👩🏽‍🏫📝📚🎓 I forgot to ask how much of the students’ L1 should I use in class?

Congratulations, Zakiyyah! With very young learner classes, I'd recommend setting up routines early on, keeping activities relatively short, and most importantly and above all, making it fun with lots of games and songs. I wouldn't expect too much from young learners - as you mentioned, they are still developing their L1 skills. Excited to see what other gems and insights our KZfaq community has to share on this topic! Wishing you all the best in your new role - Alan

Do you teach students in private class individually?
@TEFLorg
@TEFLorg 9 күн бұрын
Both options are available. You can work in a language school or academy that groups students by age as well as level. Some parents also want private English language tuition for their children - either to help with homework or prepare them for university/going overseas. Student motivation for these classes can vary depending on whether it's a goal of theirs, or their parents so plan accordingly to find some common ground on topics - Alan

@@TEFLorg great 👍.. but can I know the fees or if I want more details how can I contact you?
@TEFLorg
@TEFLorg 7 күн бұрын
So when conducting private tuition, you would set the fee or negotiate this with the student/parents. If you are working for a language school, they would disclose the salary or hourly rate for their teachers in any job ads - Alan

If the students are on a sumer camp abroad, ask them to write one page, maybe a letter home to mother.

What a great idea 💡Writing a letter home, an email or even a postcard can help students practice using the past simple. Even after the summer, they could continue practicing their English with others they met at the school/camp. Are penpals still a thing? - Alan

Yes, having 7 years experience teaching Chinese students in class and online, you have to tread carefully. Buy you can encourage them. The main problem is their study schedules are horrific. Imagine 7am to 8pm in some boarding schools. I'm not kidding you.

Best advice I can offer is don't lecture, encourage speaking, get to the point quicker, speak less, give more examples. It's not rocket science.
