What if instead there was a gear or wheel on the side of the heely wheel that was powered that makes it move from the side? That could be a better design because it would not change the heely wheel themselves it would just turn them

Would you consider having the battery pack in a backpack perhaps and switching the wheels to hub motor wheels instead? That way all electronics could be in the bag and only the hub motors themselves would be in the shoes with no extra drilling required?

I’m not very intelligent in this area but if I wanted the battery to last longer on them I would connect the heelys via wire that runs up my legs into a backpack with a bigger battery in there.

How many KV was the motor you got? They have 500, 800, 920, and 1100 on there...which do you recommend?
@GravityEquals102 жыл бұрын
I got an 800 KV, although now I would probably choose 500, they didn't have that when I made the Heelys. But it really depends on your gear ratio. If you use an electric skateboard calculator, you can calculate the speed and torque for the specs you choose, and that can help you decide what decisions to make for choosing parts.
@waynefilkins83942 жыл бұрын
@@GravityEquals10 Why lower kv? What's the difference? I had trouble figuring out what kv even means.

How did the controller / throttle work for both shoes? Does it just work on all receivers like that? Would this get confusing if you were passing someone on an electric skateboard or something?
@GravityEquals102 жыл бұрын
I just paired the controller with both receivers. Each receiver gets the same signal from the remote, but other people on electric skateboards wouldn’t interfere because their receiver and my remote aren’t paired.
@waynefilkins83942 жыл бұрын

Awesome work. For future reference, buy two pairs, remove the Sole of one pair and layer it so that you have 2 soles on each sneaker. It’ll be thick enough to work with without having to jack up the inside of the shoe. Probably easier too.

You could make the Outrunner motor into a hub motor and save loads of space.
@GravityEquals103 жыл бұрын
That would definitely work really well, the problem is currently there’s no hub motor that small that would fit inside shoes like that. Alternatively I could put rubber around the motor myself, which if I had the resources, I would love to do.
@jamieniche3 жыл бұрын
@@GravityEquals10 yes putting rubber around your current motor was whats I was thinking. How big is the wheel?
@GravityEquals103 жыл бұрын
@@jamieniche sorry it’s been a while so I don’t exactly remember, but I believe around 1.25 - 1.75 inches diameter
@waynefilkins83942 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to do this but that zipping sound is pretty annoying. I think this works for prototype but if anyone tried to mass produce them idk if it would actually be possible with an actual hub motor and the sound from outrunner would be too annoying. It would probably take 2x 40mm hub motors and that + battery would be so heavy.
@burgersquid Жыл бұрын
I'd think it would take a pretty special outrunner motor to use it as a drive wheel, since all your weight is on that. I mean I could be wrong, but most small motors like this are intended for drones, aren't they?
