Such as the "Great Forest Fire" of 1938 where hundreds of thousands of acres of Forest were burnt. The "Great Freeze" of 1898 when 70 MILES of the Alberni Inlet (think "Fjord") was frozen to where emergency supplies were sent by horse and sled on the ice to some out port villages on the Pacific Ocean. yep, "low risk" sounds Canadian enough. There is an old adage "Never start a war with Canada" as they have never lost a war because being at war is can be better than your normal living conditions at home.

If you say no and try to enforce that, they take it all, anyway. Your neighbors, near and far, are going to do the same thing to you. If you are naive enough to believe that your refrigeration or freezers are going to continue to work, you are mistaken. They will take your generators, fuels, oils and pig out on the contents of whatever you have that needs to be cold.

If your rice, wheat and barley becomes infested with rice weevils. Don't need to throw it out. First put all the rice in Ziplock bags. This eliminates the oxygen supply. The weevils will die within 48 hours inside the Ziplock bags. Next measure out the quantity of rice desired. Add the rice and cold water to a large container. Slowly stir the water. The rice sinks to the bottom while the the weevils float on top. Keep adding water as you flush out the weevils. Cook the now cleaned rice as you typically cook rice. Never throw out food during a crisis if you don't need to.

If you have these, you'll make it through some super tough times. I don't care if you have to dig a hole in your yard and put a grate over it, you can cook. OUTSIDE. If you don't know how to cook from scratch, get a few good cookbooks and learn. Nobody's going to save you but yourself. I'm an old ranch woman from way out in the mountains of Montana. MILES and lots more miles from any store, and this is what we keep on hand and how we all cook. You can do it and not only be fed, but be darned happy. Your kids will be also! 😊 Nothing like homemde pancakes with syrup, scrambled eggs, and some meat such as spam. Heck, get some velvetta. It's got a shelf life of centuries I think! 😅 There's canned cheese sauces. All kinds of stuff. Just use the oldest in your pantry first and there's a multitude of ways to keep it fresh longer.
