Using the masking fluid was genius! I didn’t have a bamboo stick, but a wooden kabob skewer worked almost as well. I liked my results.

Thank you for this! I have only this year gotten into watercolor painting. There's a particular image I want to paint, but I wasn't sure if I should paint entire objects with their lightest color, and then add the darks in layers - or if I should paint the different values totally separately (i.e. paint the light part its color, then the slightly darker part its color, without the lighter color underneath). I appreciate that you showed the whole process here, so I know that I should paint entire objects (minus highlights protected with masking fluid) their lightest color, and then layer on the darker colors. Thank you so much!

Anthony! If you put gesso with a foam roller on cheap board paper, can you paint on it? How will it respond?

That tonal value app is golden 👍 that really helped me out of a pinch in my initial drawing. I always draw before I paint. I try and plan as much as possible, but sometimes you get a reference that’s not the best and you’re paid to make something out of it. Real beginners should never try working from sub-par references bcuz it really makes life difficult, even for artists who know what they’re doing.

Thanks so much for your videos. In this rose painting, are you painting wet on wet, or are you just really skilled at creating a soft edge with the water in the belly of your brush?

Maybe don't be painting fine details when you tell us not to !
@WatercolorAffair5 ай бұрын
Hi Sally. Quotes from the script in this video: "Instead of getting lost in the complexity of details, you focus on the overall structure". And... "the accuracy of the details is not important. Focus on capturing the essence of the subject rather than every tiny detail, especially in areas where it might be overwhelming". This is certainly an "intermediate" level painting, but a fun challenge if you're feeling up to it :-)
