The fuel in your fuel line alone will take you further than a fully charged battery would. electric has it's roles.... this is clearly a role for internal combustion.

Stressful feeling when you don't have a slip! 😒 When I went thru Nanaimo last summer I was able to get a transient/guest slip easily in the middle of downtown, it was like $50/night, but it works for getting something done (in my case laundry and provisioning).

Great to see the work progress so well - each little thing is a big thing. On moorage, the future is uncertain on the southern BC coast. As another example, Mosquito Creek marina in North Vancouver recently closed putting even more pressure on local anchorages and limited dock space. That kind of change, combined with the housing and jobs crunch, has really distorted the economics and availibility of moorage in the lower mainland area, and one has the feeling that this is just the start. But on the positive side, I like your bilge blower and have started to plan one for Q.
@WaywardLifeSailing
@WaywardLifeSailing 19 сағат бұрын
Yeah it seems to be an issue everywhere from Campbell River south to Seattle 😞 really frustrating. And yes the bilge blower is working great!

Oh I feel for you being kicked-out again. We just finished a similar nightmare from the Mosquito Creek Marina disaster. But now we are in Maple Bay Marina, we drove there last weekend to prep the boat and we are flying with Harbour Air tomorrow from Vancouver to MBM and we will enjoy s/l Laysan from 12 days! (of course we have a to-do list as long as my arm but just being on the boat will be a blessing. I hope you are happy to be on your boat even if on a mooring ball. Cheers, a.

I'm quite late in your storyline, but I can't thank you both enough. I've visited a Norman 40 here in the Netherlands, and your videos and your Buy Steel Boat Guide were great. And gosh, how different they are! I got Van de Stadt 'Study Prints' and figured the one I visited was the 3-cabin layout, with a smaller head, and several other design differences. Thanks to you, I knew what to look for. The bilges are great. The chain locker, not so much. I'm still digging this whole steel boat idea. Since I came back from a sailing journey in Svalbard.

Wow! The continuous discovery of challenges is both impressive and daunting, but it's great that you're facing them head-on. It seems like your boat was hastily patched up without the attention and care it deserved. Have you ever reached out to Van de Stadt to check if the wood-on-steel setup was original to its construction? I'm glad you found out about this now rather than while on the water. Thank you so much for all the effort you've put into documenting and sharing this experience.

I’m glad. We didn’t wanna be downers, but we don’t want people going into this kind of thing thinking it’s going to be a cake walk and then ending up in trouble
@be.side.schepop
@be.side.schepop 21 күн бұрын
Are you kidding? The bulwark piece is painful to follow, but it provides a list of weaknesses I can consider when looking for a boat. No downer! Your drive and persistence are inspiring. The Norman I am visiting next week does not have the same bulwark structure as yours, which is a relief. After researching different models and years, it seems that different builders built Van De Stadt's designs. This may provide a clue about the details, such as the absence of teak and the diversity of finishing on top of the bulwarks.
@WaywardLifeSailing
@WaywardLifeSailing 20 күн бұрын
@@be.side.schepop glad to hear! Yeah they’re also custom built out of at least three different materials, so there is a lot of variation in certain design features and finishing. Also at least two different cabin heights etc etc. glad to hear you’ve found one without the bulwarks issue. That’s great to hear
