Nice boat! Do you have the 90 or 115? I just picked up a used 2022 170 with the 115 and noticed the engine is pretty loud, especially between 3000-3500 rpm’s. Runs great, just seems really loud compared to other boats I’ve had. Have you noticed this at all?
@BikingWithTheBoys7 күн бұрын
I have the 115 and I really don’t have anything else to compare it to. It doesn’t seem too loud to me but I’m usually running at 3800-4200 rpm. Congrats on your boat!!

Nice Montauk! - I have a boat like that too. When you are running with the top folded, there are stops in the zipper that let you keep the straps attached to the helm. It keeps the top from swaying side to side too much in rough water - if you didn’t already know that. Took me a year to figure that out on my own.

@BikingWithTheBoys10 күн бұрын
Thanks!! She ain’t bad in the chop as long as they are 1-2 footers.. it’s expected to get a bit bumpy on a 17 but I’m always surprised how well the Montauk tracks through chop. Been a SUPER dry ride. 2-3 footers and I’m having to dial back the throttle for a smoother ride.

@@BikingWithTheBoys I snagged the wheel set and the sram AXS group set and not joke, the wheel set was the better upgrade. The lack of dead space is a game changer. It was never a though until I learned about it but points of engagement is a big lacking spot in most bikes. Knowing the difference is a blessing and a curse.

So when you go downhill you go up shift and going up hill you go Down shift.
@BikingWithTheBoysАй бұрын
You got it. Basically, if your legs don’t have enough power to push down on the pedals, downshift to an easier gear. If you look at the rear cog, an up shift would move the chain to a smaller ring and a down shift would move the chain to a larger one. You can only go so fast on a single gear mechanically no matter how much you pedal. The goal is to keep the pressure within a level you are able to comfortably pedal. If you have stronger legs, then typically you would be able to stay at a higher/faster gear than someone with less strength. Hope that makes sense! Have a great ride!!

I might have gone with the edge water but I ended up with the BW because it was a better fit in the garage. I think I had height issues with the EW. The 170 barely fits. 2 inches maybe max of wiggle room at the garage opening height. I don’t regret my choice at all! 🤙

@BikingWithTheBoys5 ай бұрын
Wanted the biggest possible montauk that would fit in my two car garage. The 170 seems to have been the right choice. I might be able to squeeze in the 190 but it won’t clear the top of the garage. 170 has about 2” of clearance before hitting the top and the 190 sits taller on the trailer.

Are you guys still enjoying the boat? We are looking at the 170. Most people around our area have Carolina skiffs, so a little concerned it may not get shallow enough for some areas we go to. Really like the 190 but it drafts even more so is probably out of the question.
@BikingWithTheBoys5 ай бұрын
So far we are loving it! She drafts 11”. However, we typically aren’t running in super skinny water to be concerned. I do like the 190 but I don’t think it would fit in our garage so the 170 is perfect for us.

Starting to get into MTB and this video was exactly what I was looking for. Is rule of thumb to down shift to get over steep terrain and up shift when descending?
@BikingWithTheBoys5 ай бұрын
Exactly! Steep climbs your want to down shift (move the chain to the bigger cog) and shift up (move the cog to the smaller cog) when descending or attempting to increase more top speed. Thank you for the comment and I hope you enjoy MTBing! It’s a great sport and stress reliever. 🤙
