She was a very strange person. One of her lovers said she spent all day casting "spells" to make him stay with her. Another one said that Blixen felt that God let her down, so she turned to Lucifer to give her power.

I discover Karen Blixen in 1986 with the movie Out of Africa in France. It reminded me my staying in Nairobi in 1977. But above all, I love the wonderful and luminous person Karen Blixen. I read many books of her. I saw exhibition of her arts in Paris !!

anyone coming to the book after seeing the film will be immensely disappointed. the book is well written, but it’s mostly a lot of sentimental crap, whimsical notions and fanciful daydreams … sorry. i got the impression that the book was not too different from a lot of travelogue memoirs from that era-light, easy to read and not the least bit controversial. you can probably blame publishers and editor for this, and the reading public. thankfully there are lots of books on that period, including the happy valley set. i felt the same way about beryl markham’s west with the night-a very fishmongery take on an extraordinary woman’s life.

I was shocked to hear that she sold her soul to the devil to become famous. I won't be purchasing any of her books. Too bad she didn't turn to God instead. What a tragedy her life was and Satan finally claimed her at the end. He truly is not a good master, but Christ is!

I tell you! 😲🤣 Nothing more than pure b.s. supposition and assumptions on his part, laced with the usual references to God, Christ, and Satan that these types always feel is necessary to show the rest of us how "enlightened" they are, as compared to we, the "ignorant masses". 🙄

Thank you for posting this very informative documentary. My family lived in Sweden in 1966/1967 and that was our first contact with Scandinavian furniture. It is unique, and is only paralleled by Japanese works; I find a very strong familiarity between the two- it's all about essentials. The Western world has gone to pot; there is absolutely no more real furniture being designed, built, or even imagined. We are now in utter decadence. I was a cabinet maker and furniture restorer.

Thank you very much for the subtitles, great help. Not complaining, and I hope I don't cause offence, but they could perhaps be improved. 3:28 'og så havde jeg en poesibog' -- 'and then I had a book of poetry' (not 'autograph book'). 8:28 'pludselig ser jeg i Socialdemokraten som vi brugte som dug derhjemme [etc.]' includes a telling detail about their poverty -- 'suddenly I saw his obituary in the newspaper that we used as tablecloth.' 16:04 'sprænge de konventionelle småborgerlige rammer' -- 'blast the conventional bourgeois restrictions' ('sprænge' is something quite other than 'disrupt': it's to do away with, explode, or blast. And it's the restrictions of her life in the working-class district in town, not the suburbs so it cannot be 'suburban conventions'). 26:16 'uden at tage sine trusser af' -- 'without removing her panties' ('underwear' covers both the top and bottom of the body). 26:29 'alle klappede begejstret' -- 'everyone clapped with delight' (excitement is another kettle of fish). 29:29 'eller også tilfredsstiller hun ikke....' -- 'or why she won't satisfy other sexual demands' (it's not merely massage but a certain kind of massage and other such activities). 35:55 Here, 'stof' does not here mean 'drug' but 'material' as in subject matter. Thank you for your efforts. Anne Linnet has made an excellent song out of the poem 'Barndommens Gade', really catchy tune. So often, such attempts at turning a poem into a song don't work, but this one really does.
