Hi! I just found your channel and LOVE your methodology. Went back and followed your build on this beautiful project. The gentleman you sold this car to in Ottawa is a good friend of mine (Nick), and is also an Audi fan (well, he's a German car fan in general). I take care of his personal cars (paint correction, PPF ,etc.). Anyway, he is thinning out his collection (he wants to add more Porsche's to his garage now) and has offered this B7 RS4 to me for a great price. I wanted to reach out to you via email or PM if that is ok? Thanks so much. Cheers, Andrew

Great video! My 2018 Golf TSI has the same issue. Handbrake lever was sloppy, and the right rear rotor and rims were hot. Guide pins were fine, the pads weren't stuck, and the caliper piston retracted smoothly. I finally noticed the parking brake lever on the caliper was seized and wasn't returning to the open position.

What controls the middle vents? The only vent that blows is the driver side vent by the door and on the passenger side one as well.
@biturboaudis4

The front air distribution flap motor controls that airflow. It's the hardest one to get to, left side, upper.

Great video, thanks for posting this in such detail! 🙏🏼 For a UK (RHD) car, my error code is “328964 - Motor for Front Air Distribution Flap B1091 71 [008]” I’m a little confused but does this mean the faulty motor is the lower one near the footwell on my driver (right) side?
@biturboaudis4
@biturboaudis4 3 ай бұрын
The front air distribution flap motor on LHD vehicles is on the left side, upper motor (behind instrument cluster). It's the hardest one to get to. On your RHD car, I'm almost certain it's in the same spot, thus in your case, and based on your fault code, it'll be behind your glove box, close to the top. The two lower motors are for driver and passenger temperature control only; one on the left side of the air box and the other on the right side. These are the easiest to get to.
@0asis2007
@0asis2007 3 ай бұрын
@@biturboaudis4 Thank you for the quick reply! I understand what you’re saying and that makes perfect sense 👍🏼 The weird thing however, is that regardless of the fault code, my problem is the temperature control on the right side (my driver side) is not working. I only get cold air from the vents on this side of the car. Other side is fine 🤷🏽‍♂️ Which would suggest I need to change the lower (easier!) motor…. Hence my confusion

Great video that I sadly only found now, after repairing my car. Notes to others who find this before starting the repair: - You don't need to remove the Instrument Cluster - On a LHD vehicle, you have to remove the driver footwell airbag to get up to the distribution flap motor. If you don't want to disconnect its electical connector, just put it on the brake pedal - for getting the screws out, use a bit that's as magnetic as possible on a ratchet. Saves you from losing screws in there. - for getting the screws back in, use a bit of tape to fix them to the bit, that way you can't lose them but you can just pull to "unstick" them once you have them screwed in some threads deep

Can you please tell me how to align the gears of the motor and the flap? Did you do it by hand?
@biturboaudis4
@biturboaudis4 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I aligned them by hand. One needs to take note of the position of the old motor upon removal, then the new motor can be actuated, by plugging it in without mounting it, so that it matches the position of the old motor. As a matter of fact, when I replaced the first flap motor, I didn't have the teeth lined up properly, and as a result the motor skipped a tooth on the gear when I actuated it. It was fine after that.

Thanks you for the information, best explanation video out there! Had to also do it for mk7 Golf, because the aircon was not blowing air to the footwell. Part number was 5Q0907511A but was also advised to use 2Q0907511G and OEM part because cheaper parts can be risky. Did not need to remove the instrument cluster, but the two screws took a nice hour to get out. The lower one can be done with a smaller hex screwdriver and the top one I did with a regular screwdriver with hex head, just have to figure out the right space to put it through.

Thanks for the video. So i have codes B109071 defroster flap, B108B13 & B108B71 fresh air recirculation flap motor. These if i understand you correctly are right side behind glovebox. top one center area and one far to the right on the flap door above fresh air filter? is this correct? same car. Looks like part # 5Q0907511d is now 5WA907511B. I get air all the time out the defrost front window and can get air out the vents but still defrost vents if i only have vent button on. never get air out foot area no matter what switches are on. I can turn vent air flow off but always getting air out defrost no matter what.
@biturboaudis4

You are correct: Both are behind the airbox. The defroster flap motor is the upper flap motor on the right side of the HVAC box in the center of the vehicle. The recirculation flap motor is above the cabin filter, far right side.

Could you do a walk through of how you removed the instrument cluster?
@biturboaudis4
@biturboaudis4 7 ай бұрын
@@MikeBrown-rr9wj There is a cover on top of the steering column that has a piece of vinyl fabric on it. That cover/piece is clipped into the bottom of the cluster and needs to be pulled towards the rear of the vehicle, which exposes two screws that secure the cluster to the dashboard. Once those two screws are removed, the cluster can come out.

@biturboaudis4 Thank you for the insight. I'm going to tackle this project this weekend. Are there any tips on disconnecting the motor from the flap arm (or whatever is connected to the motor)? In other videos, I saw a yellow arm or pulley system. Did you disconnect the battery, like I usually do when working on cars? Sorry for the barrage of questions. I'm just trying to get a leg up on the job.
@biturboaudis4
@biturboaudis4 7 ай бұрын
@@MikeBrown-rr9wj I did not disconnect the battery, but it was a bit of a PITA to align the new motor to the flap position. I had to adjust the flap's position more times than I want to admit before the new actuator lined up properly.

because of the height, did you have problems with the planetary gears?

No problems in 5 years of driving with the lift kit installed. The axle shaft angles were taken into consideration when developing these spacers , so that the reliability of the suspension system and drivetrain would not be compromised. I've seen 2 inch (50mm) spacers out there, but I know those will cause issues with the front axle shafts, so I would not recommend them.

Is this wired in series with the clutch switch or did you just bypass/unplug that switch?
@biturboaudis4
@biturboaudis4 8 ай бұрын
It was wired in series with the hand brake, and in parallel (via a relay) to the clutch switch. This ensures that the clutch switch would only close when both conditions are met: hand brake on and car in neutral.

Wondering if it would work to be powered from the ignition or accessory wires from the unit. I’m also planning to run the parking brake and proximity switch in to the hood pin (-)input on the remote start unit.
