What is this nonsense. This is getting silly. NEW RULE: Sailboats must keep their hull in the water at all times during a race. This is not sailing. It is some form of parasailing and is a perversion of sailing. It also harms sailboat design, endangers animals (They killed sixteen whales during their last race, and dozens of sea turtles) Should be banned.

@@Bercilakdehautdesert ...look, at some point this is not actually sailing and we need to make clear rules about what is, and what is not, a sailboat. Aside from the danger and harm to countless animals that these boat things get in the way of, it is also a perversion of sailing. It is like those so-called, land speed records where they put a rocket on the back of a sled that has wings to keep part of it touching the ground. That is not a car anymore than a flying craft with a blade in the water, is a a sailboat.

@@Bercilakdehautdesert ..just google it. There are several articles and then add them up and you will get that number. But it requires some research as different countries have made different analysis of the various dead whales from these boat strikes.

Well, i'm practising windfoil and i my feeling IS that it's totally different from funboard. Once you have tasted the adrénaline of flying, you just Ask for more. Being 1m on top of the sea may seem not natural, but if IS crazy Amazing. I assume it IS somehow similar for these imoca. It's a different way of sailing.

You want to know why? It has an 'X-rudder' orientation like *no other* IMOCA 60. Bureau Vallée tested a T-foil rudder several years back and the transformation was dramatic. Completely stable by comparison to a standard rudder availed by additional lift at the rear. Something that is sorely missing from IMOCA foiling. The problem is it's illegal under current racing rules for the IMOCA class. Charal wanted the rear lift for extra speed and stability of a T-foil rudder without infringing the rules, so they angled the two rudders outwards to act as makeshift foils in ideal foiling conditions. By angling the rudders, they induce lift and the rear flies instead of the characteristic dragging and slamming. Much more comfortable and of course faster. Expect to see more rudder systems like this if it won't be banned outright. Ingenious workaround of a regulation.

Wow! Looking at this vid I know 2 things. One - The grinders are probably about ready to mutiny and Two - they look like they have way more control over that boat than people think. There were a lot of maneuvers in there (especially from the 5 minute mark) with turning, slowing, speeding up and even dunking the boat and getting back up instantly (touch and go). They also look like they can really control their vertical flight i.e barely skimming the water surface to having a lot of air under it. Some turns with crew swaps, others without. I really think this was a "Keep them guessing (and worried)" display.

Looking like they saw the problem and didn't fix it. Terry even said its been happening last two days. Frustrating to see poor sailing on top of it, following the leader is no way to find better wind in match racing.

Remember when we were 8 and 0 up,then they came from behind to take it 9-8,i would never underestimate this great American team. Hope our NZ team is prep enough for whomever comes through.From what im seeing so far they are all beasts..

Great stuff Patriot is back. Maybe should nicknamed 'The Terminator' ... Total respect for the nod to the other teams that helped make it happen. it's what the world needs to see right now.
