Do you use a normal mortar for tile on top of the red gard? Or a special one
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects 12 сағат бұрын
The instructions say "Install tile or stone with a Custom® Building Products polymer-modified mortar that meets ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 standards based on application requirements."

Would you recommend the same test for a leaking shower where the tile is already installed and grout has been applied?
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects 22 сағат бұрын
Hey there. This test could be used at any point to determine if the shower is completely watertight. If you already know the shower is leaking, then it might not tell you much unless you just want to measure how fast the water is draining out.
@F.J._Claes
@F.J._Claes 19 сағат бұрын
@practicalhomeprojects It's leaking, but we're trying to find out if it's the pan or the walls. Thanks for your answer. I just didn't know if it would be wise to fill up the pan when it already has been tiled and grouted because I was thinking the excess water may cause the tile to become loose.
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects 12 сағат бұрын
If filling the pan with water causes tile to become loose, you'll want to know sooner rather than later. If installed properly, the tiles should never come loose. The vertical surfaces are rarely the source of leaks because water follows the path of least resistance straight down. Leaks usually occur at seams where water can settle.

I wouldn't use Redgard on any showers. It's known to re emulsify and bleed pink through you grout joints. If you use Aquabar first you won't need to waterproof your shower other then the pan but get that hotmopped, that's the best way to go. If you really want to get down, float your shower with concrete. I floated all my showers until I got too old but then I started using Denshield. Score and snap, way less labor intensive.
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects Күн бұрын
Thanks for the input; hopefully we don't have that issue. I've seen hot mopped showers, it looks reliable but not DIY friendly. RedGard has been used in hundreds of thousands of showers for decades, so I would expect that if instructions are followed then there won't be any issues. We'll keep an eye out though.

Hello. Good question. I was digging through the website and it doesn't mention fluoride. Other sources say that fluoride is extremely difficult to filter and usually requires reverse osmosis, so this filter probably doesn't reduce fluoride.

Very helpful vid. I found myself checking the wiring in your video having to replace my old State set-limit thermostat with a new adjustable top thermostat. There were wiring variations based on the thermostat manufacturer. If you could have shown the wire color a little better (lower) I could have confirmed my own wiring choices.. I think? Thanks again. Headed under the house with the multi meter. Peace
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects 18 күн бұрын
Just follow the wires from the power source down through the thermostats and heating elements. These wire colors may not match the ones in your water heater. The thermostats should be labeled with a number or wording you can use to refer to the correct wiring. Best of luck.

Is there some thing for redirecting a ceiling bathroom vent? My room is next to the bathroom and I'd rather push the air from the bathroom vent into my room. So a duct will be attached to the ceiling vent into the bedroom (leave the door open a bit to allow the duct in)

If you own a SDS-Max Rotary Hammer drill get a ground rod driver and it's a piece of cake. (No water needed.) If not a fence post driver can make it a lot easier than using a hammer, for most of the length.

This trick can be helpful: To avoid the weight pouch getting stuck or snug up on a branch make sure you either use a weight that can be metal or magnetic before throwing it up. You can also place any non-metal weight in the pouch and put a magnet inside the weight pouch. With this trick, if the weight pouch gets stuck, you could use a longer pole with a magnet at the end to pull the weight down. Viola!

@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects Ай бұрын
Definitely important, and I should have elaborated in the video. I'm always nervous about cutting into any of the framing because I don't know how the structural engineer set things up. In our case, I examined the alignment of the wall with the floor joists and roof trusses with a professional. This particular wall is not supporting the structure of the house so no remediation is necessary. If support were needed, then we would add the supporting framing members. Thanks!

The flood test would really just be testing the drain assembly, so I suppose you wouldn't need to fill it up all of the way. It wouldn't hurt though. Good luck on your project.

Need to fill in the void around the box extender also. NEC 314.21. Gaps around boxes that are recessed in noncombustible surfaces (such as plaster, drywall, or plasterboard) must be repaired so there will be no gap greater than 1⁄8 in.

What about single line faucets? Will all the water come out filtered?
@practicalhomeprojects

The typical install would be for the cold water line to be filtered at all times. I ran the diverter to a second tap to increase the lifespan of the filter and avoid the reduced pressure on the main cold water line.

I'm using what looks like the same curb as you. However, I am pouring my own pan liner with a membrane. I was planning on wrapping my curb in a thinset pasted concrete board like I found another KZfaqr do. sticking the concrete board to the curb using thinset is to avoid putting any screw holes in the pan liner when it wraps over the curb. Do you see this as a good idea?
@practicalhomeprojects
@practicalhomeprojects 2 ай бұрын
What kind of pan liner? Thinset won't stick to those thick PVC ones. The newer membranes have fibers on them and are designed to work with thinset. Either way, I'm not sure I understand the purpose of the cement board. I'm pretty sure cement board is supposed to always be installed with screws, but check your manufacturer's directions. Hope this helps.

Lots off different suggestions and techniques to get that damn first string/ rope over the branch , all good ideas ! What ever works 👍 mine was I used string that masons and carpenters use for setting up straight lines and edges. …… ( didn’t buy it, had it from my working days) it won’t break ever! It is rated at 1500# test line. You’ll cut your fingers off before it breaks Any way I tie it to about a 1” or bigger socket which makes a perfect throwing projectile but that is in the hand of my son-in-law, my arm and little league pitching days have long since passed. Other than that I never saw the rope saw technique before, pretty cool 👍 Just a little trivia question for you, does anyone know how they got the very first string/ rope/cable over the Niagara river so they could build the bridge…? ………………….. Kite😉

@practicalhomeprojects 3 ай бұрын
Hi there. If the fan is turning and steam isn't getting sucked in, then that's going to be tricky to diagnose. I'd guess that either you don't have a good source of air flowing into the room like a vent register, or the bathroom vent duct is blocked somehow. Best of luck!
