Have you done a full version of Big Swifty or anything from Wakajawaka? My all time favorite Zappa jazz album.
@TheFuriousBongos3 күн бұрын
We do play all the written parts of BIg Swifty (the parts that were consistent through all his various arrangements, anyway). Huge chunks of the version on Wakajawaka (like most versions) are improv or created specifically for that moment. Given that Frank himself never tried to recreate those kinds of things, it's not something we typically try to do either. Nothing wrong with that (Dweezil makes a living recreating those old albums, after all), but it's not what makes this gig fun for us. 🙂

@@TheFuriousBongos It was a big job for Dweezil to recreate Hot Rats, but, true, no one does a copy of Big Swifty, not even Frank. I have seen some "big band" bands do sections of it on youtube and that is pretty cool. I do appriciate any riffs from it. Last time I saw Dweezil in portland, OR and Bend, OR he did some wakahaka riffs in a medley. I don't know why I am so obsessed with that song and that whole album, but I am. I don't compare it to other albums, like Overnite or Apostrophe because it is appples and oranges. it stands on its own. The moog was new at the time so they went ape on that which was very cool and enjoyable. I can't say enough about Waka but I am sure I am preaching to the choir. No, it would not be "fun" trying to recreate the whole song or album...like trying to recreate Rush solos. Just a challenge. Dweezil talks about his Hot rats process recreating old sounds with new gear. its pretty amazing. Sometimes he talks about it right a the show. You guys are having fun for sure. More power to you for continuing the tradition in your own way. Me, I just want to sing Zomby Woof on stage before I die. break a leg! btw, We want to come see you in Connecticut if you are coming let me know. Or nearby.

There's a distinct lack of explosions, lasers and dry ice, but apart from that it's pretty nifty. When are you coming to Scotland?

I would not ever nit pic. These people are keeping this music alive. Frank Zappa was one of the all time greats and my respect goes to any who work in his name. He loved reggae so the Bob Marlely reference is not an issue for me.

I love it, awesome. Are you guys a Zappa tribute band, or do you just do lots of his covers? And the drummers peepers are priceless, not to mention he's doing Terry Bozzio and Chad Wackerman proud.

Thank you, man! And yeah, we're a touring Zappa tribute project. Filip (the drummer in this video) is fantastic, but we were lucky enough to be able to tour with Chad last fall, and he's our first-call guy going forward: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a-CZmtqpvc-YYIE.htmlsi=Od0xqVKlVYpxx8DF
