No, becoming a physical therapist later in life is no problem. I started physical therapy school at 38 years of age and was a physical therapist for years until I retired in my 60’s.

Just finished high school and I'm not taking a gap year I'm going into a decent school but I'm planning on re-applying this year and starting over to get into the schools I really want which would still put me a year behind. Sad.

Laminectomy and Discectomy. Most likely low back pain with Radicular pain type of presentation or some sort of nerve hyperfunction due to chemical irritation/ increased axoplasmic flow resulting in symptoms. Those surgeries would have removed compression of the nerve thus bringing down the likely hood it’s radiculopathy or discogenic pain with nerve compression.

NOT “sciatica”, it’s an outdated umbrella type of term overly used to describe back pain that travels down the leg.

Tell me if I’m correct, partially correct or wrong doc. Please, the feedback would be appreciated as im majoring in kinesiology. I would love to know if i was incorrect somewhere and can improve on my information and knowledge. Willing to learn not reject as it’s better to help & inform one another. No egos should be involved within the medical community

As someone who is commonly associated with this pain and helped my mother with it as she’s had it too. He has what the general term refers to it as sciatica. His sciatic nerve is compressed by either a herniated disc or by degeneration of the hip joint causing irritation on that sciatic nerve. That travels through a hole of the sacrum down to the hamstring. I’ve done exercises to rid sciatica, you do exercises to strengthen your lower back muscles so lower internal lat muscles like the Iliocostalis and serratus posterior inferior specifically, hamstring, and glutes.

another thing for students is that your grades in undergrad PT school has no reflection on the kind of therapist you will be.

Not for me. There isn’t a worse profession as far as time and money spend vs salary at the end of the rainbow. I would say NP and PA are much better healthcare professions.

Not a physical therapist nor planning to but i think its a isometric shoulder hold that works the rotator cuff for stability? The walking can increase the need for you to stabilize the shoulder better

When you open, it’s the pirformis, when you drop down, it’s a glute stretch. Working on the pirformis will help with hip external rotation like when someone is dealing with knee cave in the squat, they can warm up with this! (One of my favorite glute warm up exercises 👍😁) and it’s called a hip airplane ✈️

Lacking shoulder stability can cause shaking. Your shoulder is working hard to create stability through the joint. Isometrics are great for rehab/ stability. Posterior deltoid and upper trap would be my best guess.

The shoulder protraction that your doing will recruit your serratus anterior. Which is helpful to build strong stable/ functional shoulders.

Shoulder extenders in a lengthened range. Also challenges patients to get into a deeper flexion ROM if they have issues with that. It seems like some fasciculation is occurring. This can cause aberrant stress through the shoulder complex
