There needs to be a reformation of the American church back to the essence of the community Jesus and Paul wanted. Jesus would not be able to wrap his head round the individualism of American Christianity. He was all about community. The business of American Christianity is sucking the life out of the church. I read this passage this morning, and after many years of reading, moving on and excepting it at face value, it hit me. 1st Corinthians 11 addresses congregation that came to a place Paul called "the house of God" Archeologists have discovered places throught Israel and surrounding areas with evidence they were meeting places for Christians to gather, as homes on those days were not big enough for a large group to gather. Home churches would be great, but how then will they be set up with leadership according to Biblical model, for God sets leaders to shepherd and protect the believers from wolves that come seeking to bring division, or false doctrines.

Many years ago I would tell all my Christian friends that the closer we get to the very End days before Jesus returns we will see the "church" who is the believers not a building will return to meeting in homes and eventually have to go underground as in other countries. May God give all of us guidance that are feeling the pull to come out of this organized religious system and lead us to a griuo of believers already meeting. My question is how does a home chirch establish its leaders like the model is set forth in the first churches? As some are given the office of prophet, pastor, overseer, bishop or teacher to shepherd the flock.

' church ' buildings and attendance are nowhere to be found in my King James Bible. The ' liturgies ' practices and leadership are also unbiblical. It's all catholic cult influence. The same applies to the bible usage. There's only one pure and preserved word of Almighty God in English. The King James Bible. The rest come from the heretic swamp of Alexandria and are all approved by the vatican.

I attend a small reformed Baptist church and we are modeled after the 1st century church. We have prayer meeting then church with the singing of hymns, psalms and spiritual out of the psalter, expository preaching, have communion weekly, read a creed from the Bible, ending with prayer. We then have a meal together immediately following church. It’s very personal. We are not interested in building an empire and if we get too large we will plant another church.

This is a very good list. I would like to see a return of feasting and eating together, important in both the Old and New Testaments. Eating together fosters community and helps facilitate many of the points here - play, discipleship, community engagement and accountability. I've noticed in many churches, especially large ones, members know very few of their fellow congregants. It's hard to live in a sense of community and to "one another" when you don't even know the names of the people sitting around you.

He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in America while his university exchange program during 60s. in his second year in America, he had an opportunity hearing the truth and gospel about who God is and what He has done for him as well clearly from Evangelical pastors, and eventually he responded to accept Jesus as his personal Savior. After completion of his uni. studies in America, he has let to be a Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas, USA from 1965 to 70. I have also received my education in Florida, USA from high school and Bible college at New Port Richey, Fl, USA. As I personally believe that there are many various churches in America such as cults, heretical, liberal, ecumenical, legalistic, and Prosperity Gospel, and Charismatic movements, etc. Seventh Advent as well. Majority of Christian groups focus too much on to human efforts and earthly glory by having a enormous properties. Some mega churches contains over 5000 members more than 10000 members, but comparing to that, there are very small congregations at county side. How come it is necessary or essential having a House Church in America. Speaking of my home country, Japan, as you can imagine that there are NOT many Christian population in JAPAN. Furthermore, a size of Japan itself is very similar to that of California. That is why it is very effective to have a Home church in Japan. There are so many Buddhist temples and Shrines throughout JAPAN. I am not talking about a customs of a church.

I agree with pretty much all of what's said here. My list would be: 1. It appears to me that communion is an important way to both humble yourself before and receive from God. I tend towards bringing it back to every week. 2. Training by apprenticeship. I learned to follow Christ from my dad, I taught my wife, and her and I taught our kids. The barriers to entry into Bible college are high but for ordinary discipleship they are really low. 3. Reality. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit but we don't believe in faking it or making it up. God meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. Also, you're there for prayer, salvation, or healing, not necessarily to hit the floor. 4. Churches are often not set up to help their own membership with physical needs much less the community at large. If we could stop or slow the financial destruction inside the membership the members themselves as well as the church they attend would prosper. Sometimes just an appliance or car repair means the world to a struggling family and is enough to help them keep going. 5. The church is to train and equip believers. Those believers should be able to win and disciple others. The church shouldn't be geared just towards baby Christians all the time or the lowest common denominator. 6. Take the teenagers to school. Believing teenagers crave the depth of knowledge and desire answers, and will probably take it as a compliment that we consider them smart enough to learn theology. That will also help them when they get to college. 7. Show the community how to have fun without sinning. A lot of people don't know this is even possible, so they visit the liquor store, club, or bar. 8. Teach the believers to examine themselves and strengthen their own character. My pastor just this last Sunday connected a lack of doing this to hypocrisy. I believe it will also help guard against gossip and help grow compassion for sinners.

Other commentators make this a cultural admonishment by ignoring the appeal to the creation order. You acknowledge it but then immediately dismiss its import. The highlighting of Adam & Eve cannot be simply a recall of “remember the last time this happened.” Paul is driving an argument. He is presented a problem that he is trying to remedy. Imagine a town burnt to the ground in the “Great Fire if 1924.” A fire started by arson. Imagine further that town burnt down again today in a fire started by lightning strikes. They both suffered the same fate but the corrective actions are vastly different. Setting things right in Ephesus seems untenable if the tie to the creation order is not recognized.
