Benedict Taylor was also in beau Geste. Must have shortly after this was made. Would love to see that too, but can't find it.

I watch this every few months. This is probably the greatest piece of television that concentrates purely on the subject of history. To have two people of opposite thought, present the show is absolute genius.

Whenever I hear or read this poem I always picture the joyous little Duchess as being like the young girl in the painting by Thomas Lawrence known as 'Pinkie'.

I remember a day in the 1970's a friend of his broke down outside our house. His friend called Garech . A big explanation of what "hurling" was to a french man, in French Garech arrived, Rolls Royce pulled up Chieftains ensued. A session in the front room at 3pm. Memories

Robert Addie was probably only 18 or 19 years here. He was already becoming so good looking. He was to become a very fine actor. If he'd lived he would have been a great one, even a star. This must have been around 1980 or 1981. By all accounts Robert was becoming a magnet 🧲 for women and was rarely out of the papers of the time. He played mainly in period dramas as aristocratic men. Sadly, he was never content in the matrimonial state, trying it 3 times, and produced three beautiful children. Well, I like a trier. There is a sense of restlessness in his character, always looking, but never quite finding. He gave up acting for about 5 years and then returned to what he loved, but the work wasn't as forthcoming. I pray he found happiness and contentment in his achievements on screen and in his children and parents. None of us know what we miss, until its gone!! And so it is with Robert Addie. So little time on this earth 🌎 but he was a light that shone so very brightly 🌞

Robert Addie proved himself as an actor, even as a very young man. He had a privileged upbringing and he took full advantage of all he had. I loved him in Robin of sherwood! He was brilliant in "Another Country". I'm truly saddened he departed this world very young 😢 from lung cancer. If he'd lived, he would've been a star 🌟 on stage and screen. RIP ROBERT ADDIE 🙏
