I think it’s useful if you wanted to edit it in place of having us watch the tutorial pieces or the parts that just had dead air, but during the actual gameplay I feel it’s better to hear you live. Though I think time wise even that isn’t worth the effort as most people will be willing to sit through it.

Not sponsored, I was trying out doing voiceover commentary, after I had already played the game. I was curious if it would improve viewer retention - it did not. Not worth the extra effort, tbh.

@@CGPlays I think for this specific voice over it felt very empty. I think it works more for voice overs if you choose to share more thoughts on what is happening, maybe analyzing what we are seeing more. Also emotions are good, I like to hear when you are elated over winning games, or a play working out.

Fun Fact: If you wanted to go for a Central Powers hold, you get a 12-point hold on either a +19 bonus or +27 bonus. If you wanted to go for the non-wartime Central Powers, you would get a 7-point hold for a +13 bonus. Either way you don’t want that at all. It’s like Europe in the world map but worse because EVERYONE would want to break you, your in the dead center of the map, and you have to defend a lot more points for something you could get with an easier hold.

I think you actually do care about the spawn point, you needed more production (meaning, you needed more housing to be able to work more tiles) for the warriors and you needed the culture point to be able to reach oligarchy and the civic that gives you 50% production on warriors. But well, AI is dumb, and on prince difficulty you can do whatever you want, you'll still win. Still, an interesting challenge :D

I’ve been watching a lot of your risk content over the last month and I’ve got to say I’m a fan. I have it on while I work and enjoy getting distracted when a good game is on. I need to make a start on your variety content. Re: post game commentary, I think I prefer the live reactions on risk because I love your reactions but it’s definitely a good move to do post commentary on other games. See arksolo and floydson as I enjoy their voice over commentary style.

I’ve always felt voiceovers for the sake of analysis are good, but otherwise I always prefer live. For me, at least, it detracts from “I’m watching a guy play a game” to “I’m listening to a guy who’s telling me how he played a game”. And I prefer being in the moment than reviewing it afterwards. Wouldn’t be opposed if it came out every once in a while but wouldn’t like it as a majority
@jamespede61492 күн бұрын
I mostly agree with quinten on the emotion point; you're more "you" as you get into your opponents' heads in real time. However, voiceover CG is quality CG in an intriguing flavor of its own. Perhaps V.O. is the mode to pick when you're first in the turn order -- you know how you hate the pressure during map analysis! Do I exclusively watch your Risk content? No, but I exclusively watch all three channels' KZfaq content, following new videos and 7mo old backlog as the Algorithm metes it out.
@Sturmtrooper12 күн бұрын
CG, I think voiceover will be dependent on the game. “Slower” games, like Risk, don’t need it. If your other content would benefit from you staying focused on the game and then comment after.
@manuellab32652 күн бұрын
Honestly kinda weird to say but I prefer when you struggle between commentating and playing, makes for a more immersive watch, similar to the stress I go through when I'm playing myself, making tough decisions and what not. But if from time to time you wanna integrate this voiceover thing for better focus hence better gameplay, by all means

Seems like a mixed reaction to the voiceover. Either way, this voiceover was a test to get feedback before I try it out on variety content, I'll only do it again for risk content if I need more feedback, or if I just simply end up preferring the commentary style AND enough of you do as well.

@@CGPlays See my comments on your other comment. But it has potential for sure! Also some of the editing/ filling in commentary is a nice thing. Less of the wait. I just realized that normally I skip parts where there is a lot of waiting, and I did not do that in this video since you kept it interesting during those times.

I think I generally prefer the live commentary at least for Risk content, though you could use voiceover as well if there's something you forgot to mention live that you'd like to add in?
@tonypringles2285Күн бұрын
either works. the only difference i can see would be voice over you'd be able to pause and thoroughly explain what's happening. but doing it live will let you come up with stuff on the fly which you might forget later on during a voice over. again either is good but perhaps no voice over is better plus saves you from doing extra work
@fatbassoutdoors51022 күн бұрын

I don't feel like risk needs voiceover, it does fine with normal commentary. I just tried voiceover first here to get people's feedback. I'm actually more interested in using it for variety content. In the future, I might experiment with doing voiceover in present tense, or do a bit of acting and pretend like it's real-time commentary. I don't know yet, I'm just experimenting. I want to put more work into my videos to make them better and I'm curious if doing voiceovers will improve the quality of my variety content.
@smitauke2 күн бұрын
I think you are on the right track, I loved some of the hindsights, but also missed some of the tension and you felt "evenly rushed". It did not fully immerse me the way live commentary does, where there is tension'on the game, but als relaxation when a plan comes together (the tension is now more on the clock, to get the comments out.). Maybe commenting more like David Attenborough in a documentary might get the tension and hindsight combo? but I feel that needs more time to prepare on the build up so maybe not ideal for you. (is there a way to mark time stamps during gameplay? I feel it might help you a lot when looking back. then you can jump to these points which you have marked as interesting)
@markdsm-5157Күн бұрын

Cg i gotta admit. The post game commentary was fine but i missed the guessing what people are going to do and it has less emotion with it. Something that might work (but thats from me so dont put too much mind to it) is that you tell us less what is gonna happen but stay more into talking about what they did and where your decisions come from. Still a good match though! I think breaking him was the right choice so that purple didnt have those extra 5 troops that turn and it all worked out! Well played
