I remember learning to do poi dances at school but I'm fairly certain that none of them ever involved flames, silk scarves or flashing lights. Don't think the Maori had any of those originally, or now for that matter.

if you don't want to drop hundreds of dollars and just want to practice, temu has poi balls with silks for less than $20. They also have the balls that light up (also good for practice) for like $6 ea. I wouldn't invest in better equipment until I got a little bit better at the skill itself. But that's just us. You do you! ;) The above shop's pieces are beautiful too!

saving this vid for future references! do you have any tips for DIY poi for beginners? I've never tried poi before and just getting started.. i see a lot of sock DIY but i want to be able to practice and feel comfortable at using/holding a better suited one for veil poi.. i hope what i said makes sense
