I'd suggest remove sharp edges on that hole you punched, or it will catch and fray some threads. Perhaps use an awl or a drill, instead. Edited to add: a thought came to me that you can cut the tip off the inner tube that ink is held in inside a ballpoint pen, and glue that into the hole. The pen should still work fine, when reassembled, and the thread is protected in an unobtrusive way, without costing a thing.

Pretty cool!!! If anything I’d suggest poking the hole from the inside out so the thread has less chances of getting caught in the sharp edges

I would make one suggestion: flip you top so that the ragged end it facing up so that it does not abrade your thread. Also, you can plastic caps and a heated nail will poke a nice smooth hole.
