I recently rescued 2 sibling cockatiels (male and female) both are almost 3 years old and I’ve had them for 2 months. The female needed medications from a vitamin deficiency (the male was not showing signs yet. Both were on an all seed diet now they are fully on pellets) I realize the move, the medications for her and being seperated for 2 weeks in a different cage next to each other since she had to rest and wear a cone is very stressful for them while also dealing with a new environment. While they were separated they slept as close to each other as possible since they used to sleep side by side on the same pirch. But now he bully’s her so much! Constantly pecking her off of food dishes and pirches. She complies but looks so sad. They are now separated at night and sleep far away from each other. Is this something I wait out since they’ve only been with me for 2 months or do I need to keep them separate from now on?

@@BirdNerdSophieI spoke to their vet and she recommended separate cages 🤷‍♀️ I told her they are pet birds not breeding birds but she said they don’t care if they’re siblings lol. So basically I need to eliminate any chance of breeding (especially since she’s laid eggs in the past Ive been told) but yes I will be going back to basics and focus on one on one training. Thank you for your response I LOVE your channel!!

Im really desperate for advice please!!! i have had my quaker parrot for 5 years ( he is 5 yo ) and no matter what ive tried, he just dislikes everyone but me. He always bites and attacks others. I know that he sees me as his mate and that its impossible to find him a parrot mate now, but is there no way for him to be atleast not so aggressive towards other people? Im always so worried to leave him with someone else if i go somewhere for a week or so, or people living with me are always on edge cuz he attacks them. :(

There’s a lot of reasons why birds do this, and firstly diet and cage set up can have a big impact so if evaluate those first! Next start with people target training your bird through the cage bars - I have a recent video on this!

Hello ! I start watching your old videos :) This one was full of informations ! I'm happy because I finally found a french Web site where I can find healthier parrot food ! Looking for your references was helpful :) I have a question about cayenne pipper. If I unsderstand well, I can put a little pinch in food and it will help parrots to feel better without danger ? Maybe ones a week ? More ? One of my parrots have a minor skin injury (I have already seen my avian vet, don't be scared 😉 ), maybe cayenne pipper can help him in addition ? Thanks for all !

Hey! It certainly wouldn’t hurt to offer some - if you are using it as a supplement for a current problem, then you can offer a pinch every day for 5 days and see if it helps 😊 calendula is also good for skin health!

I even like the title. Mostly ppl just named it "Best____for Birds". And when I watched it. It's about PARROTS. Yes, they are birds but many of things that work with parrot won't work on other birds. Like Finches,Canaries and so on. Vets recommending pellets is just like doctors who jsut give you pills, it's much easier and safer to recommend rather teaching them how to change their lifestyle.

I knew most of what you were talking about (thanks to you and David!) but there were a couple of things that I didn't know about, particularly how useful tea is rather than just being a novel way to give birds food, and that parrots can have mealworms! Living in Australia I know we have a lot of insectivores, but I just figured parrots were generally herbivores and insects weren't really a part of their diet. So that's really cool!

Hey! A 1/4 cup cones our at 4 tablespoons so that’s quite a lot! We give one tablespoon of fresh food in the morning and one tablespoon of dry food in the evening so 2 tablespoons per bird per day! This is just a guideline which can be adjusted based on weight and wastage!

I have a Parrot. He was losing feathers constantly. I really was getting scared. I never had a Parrot😮. The owner was asking me to shelter him. I immediately agreed. Aaron (I named him) was mistreated by the first owners. It took us about 2 months to understand one another. He was biting me a lot. I had to teach him what biting can do. So, now, Aaron gets a treat from me when Aaron does good. This is how I clean Aaron's Cage daily. 1. I remove all perches, ladders, and toys that need cleaning. 2. Next, I have a spray for bird Feathers. It's called "Ruffled Feathers Bird Bath!" 3. I sprayed Aaron with it, and the following day, I saw Aaron go into his water dish, and took a bath. It was hilarious to watch. 4. Soaking wet. Aaron got to feel better again. 5. I try to bathe him by my Kitchen Sink, but it's not easy to hold him. So, I let Aaron Shower from his Water Dish. 6. I wash Aaron's Cage with Ruffled Feathers Bird Bath. 7. I first clean all debris from Cage, then I use as mentioned on the bottom of Cage. There's a tray underneath the Cage, I also clean this first with water, dry, then I put on a towel Ruffled Feathers Bird Bath. I wash it all around, and put back to Cage. 8. I clean all mirrors with the towel to keep Aaron's Feathers looking healthy. 9. It was less feather loss I noticed. Aaron feels much better too. He doesn't bite himself as before. 10. Is this safe? I noticed a much happier Parrot since I use Ruffled Feathers Bird Bath to clean Aaron's Cage. Thank You! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a question(not sure how old the video is, so idk if someone will respond).but I have a tiel who’s around 7-8 yrs old. I’ve always covered him up when he sleeps and fed him seeds for food… I didn’t realize that they need more than seeds so I recently changed it to pellets… Anyway, he has an ongoing eye infection that we’ve been treating, and it isn’t doing so good. Can a change in diet have anything to do with his eye problem?
@BirdNerdSophie

Hi there, it really depends on what’s causing the eye issue, for example vitamin A deficiencies can cause eye problems, as can bacteria etc.

@@BirdNerdSophie, unfortunately we still haven’t found the direct cause of it. He seems to be acting/behaving normally besides scratching his eyes often due to the infection. Hopefully once we get him in the vet this week he’ll be better. Thanks for the reply!❤️

The water/food bowl thing did surprise me! I get sick of hand washing them every morning before I start the day so I just got a few extras and then I can wash them with the human dishes at the same time. Also great if we go away for a weekend, anyone looking after them can make up their bowls and just swap them over and leave the dirty stuff for us to deal with when we get back. Though I do have a question - would it be bird safe to have their bowls cleaned in the dishwasher? I'm aware there is some strong chemicals in dishwashing tablets etc so I wondered if that means it's unsafe for birds, or if they hot dry cycle at the end kinda cancels that out?
