Great interview and great interest in the comments. So much information and confidence in the product and shop. It was fantastic. I hope more viewers see this film. They will love it.

My goodness this chip shop owner could never have foreseen that his 1/9d Fish & chips would one day cost upwards of £10.00, 50 years later. £10 would have been a weeks' wages for some people in 1963 . Great video.. I love to see how much nicer people were back when I was a child..

In 1963, people say .... fish supper too expensive, at 2 shillings delivered to your door. That's about £1.70 today. Good luck getting a fish supper delivered for £1.70 in 2024. Just the fish supper is £10. Delivery is an extra £5.

This was my local chip shop as a child. It was next door to the school and near the local sweet shop which was called Rosie's if I remember correctly. It was a special treat I used to go with one of my sisters! I remember the family and went to college with one of the girls. His name wasn't Mr Tarry but I can't say what it was although I know it. I lived in Corstorphine for twenty years 1961 to 1981. Happy days

How utterly delightful. Growing up on a remote dairy farm in New Zealand in the 60s I could only dream of such a luxury. Purchasing food like takeaways was strictly forbidden. Our nearest f&c shop was 5 miles away. Dogfish was the most common fish and several shellfish were available. 😁

This is a wee sequence that I shot and directed for a @BBC documentary back around 2005. The commissioner didn’t like it, and asked us to take it out of the final edit. I really liked - and still do - the way it all looked and felt.
