great video J pal. I have the exact same unit (in australia) the thing stopped working half way through a job last week and only makes a humming noise when i try to turn it on now. I've disassembled it and the cooling fan on the bottom of the motor can be turned by hand. I Cant find much info other than it may be a faulty capacitor (it is a little swollen). I have tried a couple of local online forums and most are suggesting i throw it away as its not worth trying to fix. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Hi Warren, I would suggest checking the capacitor. You mentioned it appears swollen, so I’m thinking this may be the problem. If you don’t have a volt meter, maybe you can take it to a repair shop. Many lawnmower repair facilities now service electric lawnmowers. Another indication that it may be the capacitor is the humming sound. This is a “start up” capacitor, designed to give the motor an extra jolt when starting. Overall, this is a well designed unit, worth fixing. Good luck, and please let us know. Thanks!

@@MrPalmeroj G'Day J Pal. I just installed a new $20 capacitor (from karcher) and it started up without any problems. Thank you so much for your advice. Had I listened to the advice I was receiving from message boards over here I would be forking out a couple of hundred dollars for a new unit. Hopefully I get a few more years out of the old girl. Thanks again champion👍

Hi. Not all multimeters can test capacitance. If yours does, it would have a setting labeled mF (micro-farads) for unit of capacitance. If you have the same model I’m using in the video, there is a setting of 100mF. The model I’m using is DM01M. Instructions my be found on page 10 of the users’ manual. Hope this helps, and thank you for watching.

Great video! I have exactly the same issue. Can you send the Amazon link that you used to order the new switch? Thanks in advance.

Hi there useful video, 9 times out of 10 with Karcher jet washers it's usually the switch or an airlock, well done on testing the capacitor- cheaper to replace (if it is faulty), than the switch. Bye the way you reversed the brown and black wires on the new switch, did you mean to?. I usually make a quick sketch of the positions of the wires before removing them(or take a photo on your mobile or tablet),so this does not happen. Reversing the polarity of the switch may still allow current to flow but best to keep the connections as they are designed. I agree that the burning shows that the switch is old, underrated,or maybe received a power surge sometime. Hope this is helpful, not trying to find fault with your work, no pun intended!!. Cheers.

Good catch! I did not mean to reverse the connections. However, it does not make a difference as long as you align them correctly.

Super video! Helped me to fix my pressure washer and I also bought the same digital multimeter because of this video:-) Difference was that by my pressure washer the capacitor was out of order. Thanks again.
