I just watched this Latest Thread 61 and learned lots and awestruck by how beautiful the quilts were, and really appreciated all of your descriptions on how you approached each challenge. My question is how to approach fused applique vines that will not be stitched down before quilting? The stems and vines are very narrow. My thought is to stitch straight lines down the center of the vines even though that will flatten down the applique, and let the edges fray up if they want too (add to the texture of the quilt?), then do an outline of quilting around the applique and fill the background with small swirls or bubbles. Does anyone have any better ideas?

This is the best hands on video I have watched!! I was able to fix my random loopy top stitches. I was so frustrated!! YOU!! should make more videos! YOU know what you are talking about, YOU get your points across and are easy to understand and YOU covered all the possibilities which are NOT covered in the book. Please do more videos. Us newbs need your insight and knowledge.

I am working on a 60 inch my 60 inch turtle body to quilt as one pattern. How can I section out each part of the pattern to quilt/sew and then move onto the next part of the pattern? TIA

Do you have a video in full screen view that shows how to use one large pattern on a 60x60 inch quilt. I'm not sure how to section the pattern

Learn your machine. Recently I had a tech go through my machine after many years of perfect stitching. The very nice tech called me over to instruct me in proper bobbin tension. Mine was far too loose. So he tightened it to "proper" tension. Then he tested it. And loosened, and tested and loosened and tested and loosened. Ended back to what it had been before, where my machine wants it. Know how to adjust and maintain but also know your machine.

When I first started, pantographs were so new there were no guides for nesting or even true nesting patterns! We had to calculate and measure out how far to roll our quilts forward! Then someone came out with a color coded guide strip for the various pattern widths so we would know how to mark our tops for rolling forward. As you might guess, there was an odd looking strip of blank space across the quilt every time we rolled. How wide that space was depended on how close we dared to try to place the next row! Good times! Needless to say, I preferred to free-motion from the front!

Hi Nancy, to change the name of your quilt groups, double click on the current name in the quilt group tab. When you do so the tab turns blueish and you can change the name by deleting the current text and typing in the name you want. :)

I am enjoying "Node Nerds" very much, they are informative and inspirational. I would like to know when using two or three layers of batting, do you increase your stitch length? I typically use one layer of wool and one of 80/20 and have not changed my stitch length and I'm thinking I should. I usually stitch at l3 spi. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.

Hi! When I use two layers of batting I have not I changed my stitch length. I quilt like normal, only changing it in situations where I would change it with a single layer (for example smaller stitches when doing lots of pebbles). That being said, I personally do not have any experience with wool batting as I am allergic to it. Vida has experience with it, and she will share her thoughts about it. ❤ thanks for watching our show❤❤❤

Pat , you will likely get multiple answers. I like to double bat with wool and 80/20 and when I do, I set the stitch length to 11 or 12. That works for me.

I am a new quilter. I have always been a crocheter, but my old hands are making that more difficult. I researched a lot of longarm machines, but I have never tried any! My Gammill Statler Ascend is scheduled to arrive in 4-6 weeks! I love seeing your first attempts. It makes me less scared and I aspire to make beautiful creations like all of yours. Thank you ladies!

Do any of you have a sheet to fill out all the options for the customer, like color of thread, custom or edge to edge, so the details are all on the order form? I think that would be so important then you know exactly what they want. I've had a hard time drawing one up that looks professional. Thank you, hopefully someday I can be aNERD to.

Thanks for watching! Your intake form can just be a simple word document. Put your business name and contact information at the top, then have a spot for the size of the quit, and the pattern that was agreed upon, as well as the thread color(s) agreed upon. The more you use your intake form, the more you will decide what "needs" to be on it based on your business. Don't be afraid to adjust your intake form as many times as needed as your business grows.
