The recent video uploaded by The Crow Hill Company and Christian Henson about the making of the TG theme sheds some light on what this actually is - one early concept for the intro was to, as part of an initial push to make the new TG appeal to families and a wider audience (on the basis that "everyone has at least some interest in, or interaction with, cars"), have these different clips showing different "types" of people using cars in their own way. That's why we see a family, a mechanic, a "yuppie" on the phone in the back of his Merc, an old lady driving a classic Jag... and with each cut the theme music would also be cut to a different arrangement (so a quartet playing a classical version for the bit with the old Jag, a country version for the bit with the guy in the truck/tractor, and so on, with the musical themes linked to the clips in some way). In the end the decision was made to scrap this idea and pitch it as a "show for boys", with the intro reshot and the theme music recomposed in the form we know today. It also sounds like that although the intro video was created for this original concept, the music never was - according to Christian Henson, the quartet was talked about in planning but never actually booked, and so that segment was never recorded. So it seems like the theme we hear in this clip was an early draft of the intro in some capacity, but not the music that was actually intended to accompany this video.

Myself and my siblings grew up with the later Clarkson-led series as well as catching the earlier reruns on Dave. We expected the death of TopGear after the ‘fracas’ but weren’t expecting to have to watch the BBC destroy its legacy also. This video makes it make sense - the BBC loved the product, but misunderstood or ignored what made it great. Feels a lot like what Disney are doing to Marvel and Star Wars.

Did you really say that George Best was best known for his appearance in the 1966 World Cup? I realise this is not at the core of the subject of this programme, but really? If you can get that so wrong, how much can we trust the rest of your analysis?

1:31:59 This is because BBC One has always been earmarked by the corporation as the flagship general audience channel appealing to all ages. BBC Two meanwhile has for a majority of its life been for more mature audiences and a home for experimental shows that the corporation wouldn’t dare air on One, for example, Have I Got News for You was on BBC2 for the first part of its life before being transferred, the original Office, The Day Today, Bottom, Red Dwarf for the first 10 years, a myriad of documentaries and Top Gear of course. BBC Two occupies a strange middle ground where it’s not as mainstream as One but not as overly stuffy and pointlessly dull as Four.

I think a much more interesting video concept would be 'Why the Grand Tour is so naff' because we all know why this new version of Top Gear isn't good. No one cares about the dynamic between the 3 boring hosts. Of course it is a little tasteless to criticise it so harshly given the accident and all but it is what it is- the more interesting and difficult to ask question is 'Given that the golden dynamic is actually there in Grand Tour, how is it still unable to replicate the magic of the original?' Maybe that stint of Top Gear truly was a one-in-a-million, lightning in a bottle because I have genuinely tried to watch Grand Tour and I was hyped for it when it came out but the truth is, and we all know it too, that it sucks. It's an objectively inferior version of a better show its trying to parrot and all of its hosts and old and fat and gray. So yes, if you are to do a sequel to this video can it please be on that

Please can you do an in depth video about the trading card collections and other merchandise over the years, aswell as the story of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and all of the Stigs? I love your content, please keep up the astounding effort to produce your work so meticulously. It is much appreciated.

Calling the last episode with no Jeremy and it’s just Richard and may just shows that that episode was really the death of the show. Because after that the BBC paraded it’s rotting corpse around like it was weekend at Bernie’s

Knowing about the fact this was used on BBC World versions of Top Gear, My guess is that this was made for the originally planned reboot of Top Gear in 2002 that would have Clarkson but not Hammond or Dawe

honestly watching this makes me wonder. why didnt we use soft plastic as body panels in the first place? it's cheaper, and lighter than metal, it would also be rust resistant because well, it can't rust in the first place!

this is a fantastic video and i really enjoyed watching it. i do think it could have benefitted from some clips interlayed with your points. you might well have thought of that and decided against it, and i wouldnt want to dictate a format, but i believe it would make a great video even greater

The biggest difference between Clarkson and Evans was the Clarkson knew to be smug and arrogant toward people who would already hate the show, people like politicians, traffic police, etc, anyone motorists would also hate. Evans was constantly smug and unlikeable to the audience.

1:04:00 sorry mate but do you claim "most scientific circles" dismiss the idea of global warming? If so you're just a fool and ignorant. I know Jezza loves to be stubborn and thinks kis logic is immaculate but let me tell you one thing. i'm 36 years old and ever since I was born every next year has been the hottest year in last 5 years. Which means that wile every now and then we have a year that might be colder but it is still hotter than last 5 years. Nasa has statistics with global temperature that spans for over 60 years. That proves what most of us knew for a long time. Years become hotter and some countries like mine has no more winter anymore and I remember kneedeep snow. Ultimately everyone who claims his smarter than collective of many minds and generation is either insane or is not serious at all. I give you a downvote despite superb material. Being close to scientific community (but biology not climatology) I have to always rect to people misleading others in such serious topic. It's like saying "yes, corbon fiber fuselage is strong enough for your submersible to go in Titanic depths, and that cheap gamepad is enough for steering" pozdrawiam serdecznie

BBC doing what they do best, trying to be "modern" and "woke" but only end up screwing everything up and wondering why as they did everything right, right? Idiots People love Clarkson as he said it as it is and what people are actually thinking while trying to keep their jobs by being "politically correct"

The only smart decision the BBC did was putting Top Gear on re-run's with guy from friends explaining a bit in the intro. Makes it really nostalgic, especially because it is the only thing I watch on cable TV really. Then I just switch to just movies on Netflix or something Edit: I did *NOT* expect Top Gear to fail harder in the end, than my uncle failing at life from his crack addiction 💀
