I am curious to find out if Geo Payments functionality will still work on FNB Lesotho and FNB South Africa apps, because that used to work quicker and easier between SA and LSO, not that other functionalities were difficult but GEO Payments were quick and effortless.
@thefinancebachelor6 күн бұрын
Geo payments between FNB 🇱🇸 account holders with Apps will still work. However, between FNB 🇱🇸 and FNB South 🇿🇦 will be impacted.
@KekeRateronko9 күн бұрын
I understand the app is only for FNB users but I take it that the new switch system is also applicable to other banks i. e I can send money from standard bank Lesotho to FNB South Africa?
@thefinancebachelor9 күн бұрын
The switch affects all the banks within the CMA region yes. So you’ll still be able to make payments or receive money. Instead of the traditional electronic funds transfer (EFT), you’ll use global payments functionality and global receipts to receive money. All the banks will have their own version of these. FNB’s solution is the FX functionality 😍📸😁🔥💯

On the creative side, when are getting Chere Mongangane on the podcast?
@thefinancebachelorАй бұрын
Thank you for the topic and guest suggestion. We are passionate about the creative industry and we have created and launched a program dedicated to the creative industry in Lesotho that started in February 2024 until July 2024 through TKO Financial Wellness. This program covers different topics such as money management, the business of social media influencing and brand ambassadorship, personal branding, digital marketing, intellectual property, contract management and data privacy for creatives across the country. We have hosted many sessions in Maseru, Leribe and Mafeteng - check out TKO Financial Wellness on social media for more information. Our focus this season however, is to drive tax education and compliance which is also important for creatives who are earning an income through music, artistry or creative pursuits. We do hope that you've filed your tax returns and are compliant. When we do focus on the creative side on the podcast, we will consider Chere as a guest 💙🇱🇸✌🏾.

Last year I saw many Americans getting their tax refunds, for Basotho income tax paying employees how do we go about in ensuring that after certain years we get tax refunds like Americans? If it's something that can happen in Lesotho as well how much income tax should one be paying to be legible for it, after how many working years do they get it? Has there been individuals going to RSL to claim their tax refunds, if not has RSL done anything to call forward those people?

Hi TK. All of this was so helpful, thank you so much. Quick question, how do freelancers A.K.A independent contractors deal with taxes? Do I need to provide financial statements when I file my taxes to show the expenses I incurred while freelancing?
@thefinancebachelor2 ай бұрын
Hi are you registered as business i.e. Sole Trader or Company when providing your freelance services? If you aren't you'd be taxed in a similar fashion as consultants, where you'd have to provide sources of earnings, then deducted your expenses incurred in the production of the income. The profit would be taxed.
@martinafako95312 ай бұрын
Eye opening conversation, but I have few questions; why is it that working people are taxed twice, through income tax and taxed when buying goods and services in shops? As we have realized over the years that the money given to the government by RSL has not been in good use, the roads and education sector are deteriorating (examples) why does RSL continue giving the government money(except if they are forced to). Why can't it start doing it's on contributions to the country without the involvement of the gov? Maybe have workers who are checking in education department which schools to assist and how and help without gov?
@thefinancebachelor2 ай бұрын
@martinafako9531 1. There are different types of taxes, so people are not taxed twice necessarily. There is Income tax which is a tax on income earned by individuals, consultants etc. this is one type of tax. Then there is value added tax, known as VAT. This is a different types of taxation, which is not only taxed on working people. This is a tax that arises on goods and services. To the second part of your questions, RSL is an agent of the government with a mandate to collect taxes on behalf of the government. They are not a separate entity and per the mandate, they should pay over all the collections to the government. So I am not entirely sure that they have the power to do what you are suggesting. However, it would be interesting to get their opinion too

Ehhhh TKay, i am not really sure but there is difference between Businessman and Entrepreneur, Businessman or woman are made in warehouse and entrepreneurs are born, Entrepreneurs can leave their business for 90 days and it can still function without them but a businessman needs to be there. i learned it from Vusi Thembekwayo. anyway i enjoy the episode please bring us more content

- charges would increase by 2% while purchasing or withdrawing cash outside the country. - the transition of the National Payment Switch (NPS), results in all domestic ATMs and POS transactions being settled in Lesotho, through the Central Bank of Lesotho's National Payment Switch. -it is going to help in providing intra-operationalisation within local banks in Lesotho -FNB card holders will continue to have the benefit of the services offered by the bank locally and internationally without any obstacle -the localisation of the debit cards is expected to reduce ATM sharing costs domestically Awesome move !!!!

1. Legislation/Central Bank always complicating stuff 2. Money Laundering seems to be a concern for everyone who is not money laundering 3. Just cos its Legislation doesnt mean its easier. 4. Financial transactions that are complicated hinder the same economy that they are trying to grow. 5. Aren't Maluti less value than Rand? SA e ne sa re zama hore re re we are equal. 6. SADC na e involved in financial regulations? I ask cos transactions in the euro zone for a bank in Europe will not attract charges. Mohlala: Card issued in Ireland will not attract charges on countries tsa Euro Zone. Rona SADC can't even lift a finger?
