🦤🦅😍 Wingman!! Good morning, amigo mio 🫶🏼 cool huh?? And yes, with the new growths of this season is it game on? Is this even normal for a tuberculata 😆 if it is, I had no idea because the previous growths were fine size wise to bloom.... this though? Makes me think I need a bigger piece of cork and the sooner the better because I do not like that brassavola roots are not the kind to find and attach to a mount without just going aerial at liberty. In my dry climate... but, that is for another day 😅 just going to revel in the moment and not feel pressure to have the 2 new growths that are starting now, to grow the same length (because you know that is the next thought!) 😂 wishing YOU a great Tuesday as well! 😍 Hi Holly 💐 insane, huh?? Where do they think they are growing to? The previous ones were large enough to bloom, what has this orchid got in mind to be growing these long noodles!? 🤪🥊 If I had an idea that a tuberculata was capable of this, then I would have allocated a bigger mount for the roots that are probably going to not want to attach, instead go aerial ....as brassavola roots do, for the most part. I may need to rethink the size of the cork 😂 for now.... happy days! Hope you had a good day, lovely lady! Thank you so much for being here 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@NinjaOrchids 3 сағат бұрын
Hi 😍💐 woohoo!! I am so happy that this short had some inspiration for you 🫶🏼 I call it quits when I see the orchid not responding to rescue efforts over a minimum of 2 years, maximum 3. As long as there is green, I try... but, I also call it on orchids that still have green on them, when I know I am heading into winter, and cannot provide the rescue conditions the orchids need. If they cannot bounce back just a little bit during the months when conditions are conducive, then I know that they will not make it through the winter, no matter if there is still green there. That is when I call it as well. I hate doing it, but I know the limits of what I am able to make happen for rescue orchids. I don't have the temperatures or the light to help rescues through the winter. I hope that answers your question 🫶🏼 thank YOU so much for taking a moment to watch this short and leave a comment. I hope you are having a wonderful day ❤️🌸

We have faith in you, A real Neen Juhh fighter 😅 And your green /white thumbs 👍 You fill me with hope, as my brassavola tuberculosis oops brassavola tuberculata, reached a similar pre mortal stage. No green leaves, one miserable root and i know the pseudo bulb is viable.. I moved it recently to a location near the fogger sprinkler , hopefully it will add humidity to keep it alive. Let's see. Your bloom is fantastic and confirms my suspicion that Brassavola tuberculata, flagelaris And perinnii are very closely knit together species. Re: your *brassavola genus review* I hope you link it to other followers again in this vid descriptio. Happy gardening 🌷🌷 m.m

Hi 😍💐 I am going to keep my fingers crossed that your brassavola tuberculosis ... sorry, tuberculata 😆 will respond in the same way that this one did for me! I am well pleased but even more so, I am very surprised to see that it had energy from 'nowhere' to do what it is doing now. So, there is hope and this happened in my dry climate, so, you with the fogger sprinkler, it has to respond! It just has to!! 🤞🏼 I am not able to link the video you mention in the description because YT will not allow links in comments of shorts, or the description. They cancelled all links for this format. SO WEIRD and annoying! 😡 no explanation, nothing! Just... links do not work in text format. What I can do, is link a related video. I chose the video that tells in great detail, how brassavola roots grow, when they absorb water and when they end up dumping the older root system because that is the way of this genus. I appreciate you mentioning the brassavola genus review / comparison video. It took me a few years to be able to sort my tags out and differentiate the different orchids, because yes, the blooms are so similar and only until I had all mine bloom and see my pics up close to compare with reputable sources pics on the internet, could I say who is who. It was a fun video to make... but, without roots, no blooms, so I hope that the related video I chose to link, will be of help! Thank YOU so much for taking a moment to watch and leave a comment. Please keep me posted about your tuberculata! I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you will see an amazing revival comeback 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 3 сағат бұрын
😍HI Suzie Quetie 💐 no... 😅 they will dump their roots regardless! It is the way this genus grows. Clearly they think that what they have growing next time around, will be just fine for giving life and vigor to the growths. Its an amazing observation though, because, while a potted brassavola dumps it's roots, we can say it was too much water, BUT, on a mounted brassavola, the roots on the mounts get dumped regardless of wet / dry cycle, so.... drawing a false conclusion because a potted up brassavola lost it's roots, can be a problem for all potted brassavolas. I hope that this video can make it's rounds because I believe it will help anyone that is frustrated, thinking they cannot grow these orchids well in a pot, or even a hybrid with this genus in it. Well, understanding the life cycle of the roots of this genus will give peace of mind... in my opinion 🤗 I have had an 'ish' day! I thought I would get done what needed to be done, but it was a little discomboblulated, so ... I shall try and do better mañana (when in Spain) 🤔🫣😆 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady! That is a gorgeous bloom! I hope it’s not the F word and it will recover for you. The roots look very much like an orchid I recently lost. It would have green roots tips for a few weeks, then they turned brown. After the 3rd time it tried over several months, it just collapsed and died.😢 At least I don’t see any other orchids being affected. I couldn’t see a purple ring but I still wonder if I just didn’t know what I was looking for.

Hi Linda 😍💐 I did not see anything when we cut into the rhizome during the live stream that we had addressing her, getting her into lava rock. The rhizome looked clean to me 🤔 so strange. I am going to go with it is all part of the set back stage and just hope that now, without the bloom, she can focus on that one root tip and there is another root that is trying to branch 🤞🏼I am concerned that this orchid is going to do exactly what your's did, and I am so sorry that after all that time your's did eventually collapse. That is sad, especially the time invested to keep them safe, to get them through 🥺 sometimes, things just happen that we cannot explain or understand. Maybe she knew you'd fall in love with her if she made a bloom... Plants are conniving that way. Anything to survive! Does it have a scent? But if she's sick, why did you decide to let her bloom... instead of cutting it off early to conserve her energy? What was your thought process? 💕🌞🌵😷
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Күн бұрын
Hi Suzi Quetie 😍💐 she does have a scent, but not under these circumstances, however, in the past when she was happily growing with heat mats in the winter, she would have a plastic rose fragrance. Like what you would smell from a fake plastic rose, and then add actual common rose fragrance. It is not the prettiest of fragrances 😬 I did not pop the bud off, because I wanted to see if she would blast the bud on her own, this gives me some idea of how strong she is. All the while watching the pseudobulbs. If they were starting to do yoga and bed from getting used up, I would have taken the bud off. Also, this orchid does not take long to bloom once she has buds. Some orchids can take 2 weeks to open their buds from when we first see them, this one, it is within a week, soooo just wanted to see what she could do. Besides, the bloom was only open for 2 days and then I removed it. 😬 While her blooms may only last 2 weeks, that is too long and not worth the risk. It was nice to see her again, after 2 years of bud blast, and me taking buds off prematurely. I would not recommend such an experiment unless the grower knows their rescue orchids really well and is willing to risk something in order to observe what happens. NOW, that the bloom is gone, I need a root or 2 to grow healthily.... vamos a ver. One black tip is looks to be trying with a new green tip 🤞🏼 hope my novel did not result in mental gymnastics for you 🫣😆 hope you are having a great day, lovely lady 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Oooh nice! Your keiki mount project looks wonderful! It's really getting there. I think I will have to try this myself. I chickened out last summer. So I'm guessing that if I do it, in addition to making sure that the roots are long enough for the plant to survive, I should wait until spring to get the best outcome, right?
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Күн бұрын
I have as yet to get the class of 2024 sorted out on to that keiki mount project. Probably will work on that this week. The video has to come together in some way shape and form, so that is where the snag is. I remember you wanted to do something similar, but you also had the move to think of. So, now that you are settled in nicely and have a better understanding of your space, maybe something like this or the upright version with the Hibiki, as you mentioned, could be a little winter project? 🤔 The best outcome for keikis to get established is always when the roots are long enough, like 3 inches and able to take up their own water. That could be any time of year. Spring usually is not the season for keikis. They start and mature during the summer months, and the project would fall between July and September depending on when the keikis are mature enough to be removed and survive. My keiki video is in the works, and I will be covering the harvesting, timing etc details incl. q&a. 🤞🏼 I can get it done for this weekend because, the editing on that one is going to be another doozy 😅😆

Hi Susan 😍💐 so good to see you here! I hope you are having a beautiful day 🫶🏼 I am surprised that you have had several brands tried and boiled, and not one of them has leca that sinks for the majority of the leca. Now, not all may sink after processing and storing, but that should be far and few in between. So, there are brands of leca that are hydrophobic and usually only used to amend soil for the garden or potted plants, but .... having tried several brands? That seems very strange. So, in order for me to not misunderstand you, I am assuming you are saying that the leca always floats, as in still floating in the storage container while filled with water? Or, does it move in the pot when you flush, as in some leca beads will rise up as you flush or water? Because, if the latter is the case, then that is normal and will happen, but stored leca submerged in water, should not float. May I ask if you have bought your brands in a hydroponic store? Or, could you tell me which brands you bought so that I can search them and see what they are about? I would like to be of as much help as I possibly can because, I had a brand that floated and I was so mad that I had wasted the money 🤦🏼‍♀️ let me know if you can give me more details and if I can be of any help at all to resolve getting the right brand 🫶🏼 ❤️🌸

Deniiisse 😍 hi 💐 a real reality check to keep fighting for this orchid. I have not seen a bloom in 2 years because I have been removing the buds. Well, this bloom is now not attached to the orchid anymore... instead, focussing on what the root system is NOT doing 🥺🫣 hope your day started off beautifully and that you are doing well 🫶🏼 thank you so much for being here ❤️🌸

@NinjaOrchids That's an extremely beautiful orchid. I definitely encourage you to give it your all to try to get her through this rut 👍. I know the feeling when you just want to keep fighting for an orchid. My Dendrobium Sa-nook Purple Happiness (Den Phal) hopped on the struggle bus a year and a half ago, but I want to do everything possible for her. She was my first attempt at a different orchid genus besides the ubiquitous grocery store Phals that got so many of us into this hobby. She had one solid growth last year, and this year, she's pushed out another healthy growth 🥳🎊🎉. So now she has a total of two nice canes, plus one shrivelled cane. She's slowly approaching her stop to hop off the struggle bus if all goes well 🙏🏼. I've branched out into several other genera since then, but she'll always be special ❤️‍🩹

😍 Hi Tina 💐 I am so sorry to read this! I remember when I was studying in Hamburg, Germany, we would have grey winters, overcast, drizzling rain... while somewhat warm, it was miserable and very often it felt as though we were in perpetual fall throughout the whole summer. The only difference being, fall was cooler. Grey in grey, so I am so sorry that you had that kind of summer 🥺 I will keep my fingers crossed that your growths will pull through and even if they end up maturing smaller than they should be, maybe there is comfort in the fact that they will still produce a root system 🙏🏼 thank you so much for being here and for watching, Tina! I hope your week is off to a great start 🫶🏼❤️🌸

......what a great topic for a video, and the editing as always.....so good!......This was so very interesting and makes me want to dive down the nearest rabbit hole, to learn more.......We used "Great White"...mychorrhizae while running full hyro DWC, coco coir, and even on flood and drain tables.......The hormones in it will trigger a lot of roots....similiar to kelp and seaweed supplements......They would clog and burn out pumps....fill water pipes and reservoirs solid with roots....They would cause potted plants to get root bound, very quickly...and the plants themselves would grow upper vegetation at crazy rates......I guess not growing orchids in hydro myself....I.never even considered adding it to orchids......I hope you continue to show the progress of them while using TNC.........great show Nina!

39:55 Yes, watching on replay, but I'll be able to join the next stream on the 31st. 😁👍 42:50 Paph Paradise is an orchid grower based in California. 47:45 In ancient China, a pavilion was made just for growing orchids such as the Cymbidium ensifolium and it still exists today. 1:00:00 The Xyliano dance was a great way to end the stream. 🪩🕺 My favorite paph from the stream is the Lynleigh Koopowitz (24:58) for the foliage and the fragrance. I found out that it is a primary hybrid of the malipoense and delenatii. The delenatii comes from high elevation limestone cliffs. So it must need low ppm water and slow release calcium such as oyster shells. Also in my notes for slipper orchids, I have that when the pH goes "under 6.0, watering with dilute dolomite is necessary."

I have a question, if I have my plants in a location in the house and want to give them a cooling period in a garage or something. Should I put them in that cooling area with darkness for 4 to 6 weeks or have a light in there as well? I’ve heard mixed reviews on this. Alternatively, if they are kept in the house and I put them outside at night time, would that disturb/shock them too much? I have a bunch of leaves on my plants, but for years they haven’t had any flowers

Hi 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank you for being here, for watching and your question. I appreciate your time and support. You can absolutely put them in the garage for 4-6 weeks, but please make sure that they still get excellent light. No darkness, or else, if they spike, the spikes will not be able to cope with the light influence once they are back indoors for your to enjoy your blooms, they may frazzle out. If your outdoors do not drop below the temperature range that phals can tolerate, then yes, that would shock them, but if you have the option to have them outside during the night, then take them outside now and let them have the outdoor temperatures to balance day and night out. I have no idea where you are growing your orchids, what your conditions are, so please take this advice and adjust as per your circumstances. Or, let me know a little more and I can hopefully give you better advice. I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and once again, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Hello Nina! OMG thats crazy😥🤦🏻‍♀️. Here we had also hot su,,er BUT our humidity is high- good for my Vandas🙏👍. I'm so sorry, the weather is that dry. Hope you can safe them. I must rescue mostely every day this year my orchids from rain because as you know Vandas are a bit sensible for black rot and other fungal infections and bacterial diseases. In July my Bandas fell down because of a storm at night, many roots broke and i thogut this would be the end. Well, it was'nt, new roots are now growing, very fat ones!🙏🤗. But i'm still waiting for flowers, as many other orchid growers.😅 I need to be more patient, maybe in autumn or after winter, we will see. I wish you better climate, lots of health and healthy orchids❤ Best regards, Andrea💐

Hi Andrea 😍💐 it was a doozy the day this happened! I was too focussed on seeing my bird so stressed, I did not realize the mercury was rising to the heights it was because my app did not announce those high temps! I was prepared though when I saw my bird do the same thing again several days later. The app did not indicate such high temps but my bird told me everything I needed to know and well, all orchids were placed into safety. I am so sorry to hear that your vandas had that accident, but wow... isn't it amazing that they come back 'angry' and say 'watch this space' and now you have amazing branching chunky roots coming? The initial shock is the hardest to deal with, but when we see the rebound, I am so so happy that you are experiencing that 👍🏼🤗 thank you so very much for your super kind comment, lovely lady! I appreciate the support in your words and the time you took to be here! Hope you had a wonderful weekend 🫶🏼❤️🌸

There are so many unforeseen issues that can occur during livestreaming and you kept calm enough to work through that and carry on 🤗💖. In terms of Cdramas. I've seen all the ones you mentioned and enjoyed them. A few others you might like are Who Rules The World, Love Like The Galaxy, The Untamed. My MSc starts in October but there are some courses I'm working through prior to that. My remaining days of binge watching Cdramas may be short lived indeed.

🦒🌷🙋‍♀️💝 My grandparent used to say that the 1st of August was the first day of winter. What a depressing thought but true. As a farmer he knew best as more ware of the path of the sun. And so, sheer curtains are back in use!!! Thanks for all the good advice. I have a question, though about you saying fertilizers are secondary this time of the year, in between seasons. I know calcium and magnesium are of utpost importance but don't new growths also need the other elements present in the fertilizers? Would you be so kind to eleborate on that? Much appreciated. Thanks again for sharing you experience, the way your orchids are growing and blooming are the proof that you are doing it right. Happy sunday to you vecina favorita 💖💖💖💖
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 2 күн бұрын
FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, meine liebe Freundin! I appreciate the wisdom from you Granddad! They truly knew how to read the weather, came with a wealth of experience not relying on apps 🫣😆 what I try and achieve by making fertilizer secondary is to get the new growths that are in their early stages to have base structures / cells as strong as possible. Because, orchids will grow well even without fertilizer, but if they don't have enough calcium then even if they will grow well, the cells are weak. So, yes, fertilizer still comes into play, but if I am applying nutrients, I may do 3 of calcium focus and 1 of fertilizer. My purpuratas, in active growth right now, will have to cope with the cold temperatures. While I can still have a high ppm of calcium nutrients, I am taking advantage of the conditions to get that into their system, then I can tip toe with fertilizer. Same with the angraecoids, the renantheras, and all the tender orchids that are in active growth that will have to deal with horrible conditions in the future. I hope that makes sense? For moving into spring, same thing, while the light increases, the orchids react and start growing new growths, possibly relatively fast, too fast and reaching for light. Those growths are weak! They need the baseline of calcium to grow strong, the rest will be easy as the orchids respond to longer days. I wish I could grow under lights and use heat mats again, because I have no counter comparison of what I am saying. The only exception being, that the orchids I am working with now (and in the past) come through the winter and still bloomed. Vamos a ver! Just watch, because I state something with confidence and past years experiences etc. this winter is going to teach me that my orchids are going to struggle. 🥺 I hope not! Thank you so much for watching, amiga mia! I hope you had a beautiful day and wish a cozy rest of your evening 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Earth quake? This morning? Nope... did not feel anything 😬 I thought I felt a weird rumbling around 2am, but thought it was just a truck or something on the highway. It was odd... but it did not coincide with the time you mentioned. I am glad that no substantial damage has been recorded. That is a strong one being so close to the shore. Magma is moving around.
