Mate, I'm loving your videos. Would you have a soil anaylis reference for lavender? I know the soil should be alkaline, but I can't find information regarding the other nutrients. Would you have it to share? Thabks a lot!
@TheLavenderFarmer7 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! 🤗 So, about the analysis of the soil...i have never done one and you are right, the soil should be alcaline, but from my experience.....lavender....the Angustifolias are adapting easily even to a slightly acid soil. The problem with acid soil is that usualy its clay, and doesn't have a good drainage. So if you solve that...i don't think you will have a problem. If you want to increase the ph, use some lime and compost into the soil because both have a high ph! Hope this cand help you! 😊

@@TheLavenderFarmer Thank you for your reply. You're right. My soil is slightly acid and have a bit of clay. I'm challenging myself to grow lavender in the mountains of Brazil, so I'll be installing a robust drainage system to keep the soil dry as soon as possible after the rain.

I would like to propagate in August, should I use hardwood or softwood cuttings? Thanks so much.
@TheLavenderFarmer14 күн бұрын
In August i think its still hot so i would try softwood cuttings covered with plastic bag for retaining the humidity inside. Place the cuttings somewhere they have light but not direct sunlight. In the fall, October, November, i use hardwood cuttings planted directly in the ground or in propagating trays!

My stoechas was doing so well. I just got it this year. She had multiple flowers. I put her outside in full sun 7a. I think she got too hot, as she started to wilt I brought it back inside to my garden window. She was doing better. We are having a a humid heat wave… for some reason it’s almost like the soil is cracking outside… it’s never done this before here. The air is incredibly humid but the soil is so dry it’s cracking. I heard you say you need to prune my plant is still somewhat green, wilted (as if it was sad not dead), do I need to wait to do this in the fall? Should I cut the shriveled up flowers off? I have her in a terra cotta pot on my patio currently. Would you bring her inside to the garden window? I’ve never had any success with lavender until I met her and I really want her to have a long healthy life.
@TheLavenderFarmer25 күн бұрын
Its so beautiful when i see people that loves their plant so much! ❤️🤗 My stoechas did the same, and last week i cut it at half of its height. Be careful at watering, now when its so hot once at 3 days give it a good soak, and yes....the heat is so strong. I placed mine in a place that has direct sunlight only a couple of hours. It would be best the morning sun until 12:00, and after this hot weather passes give it more sun. I hope your plant recovers, but remember....plants do die, the fun is when we succeed after we failed a lot of times! ❤️🤗

Hello, so....a well established plant is delicate to move, i tried alot of times with some success, but in the first year after moving you should expect the plant to not make so many flowers. How close should I plant scarlet Firethorn seeds apart for a full hedge? I keep hearing different information on this.
@TheLavenderFarmer2 ай бұрын
It depends how quickly do you want the hedge to form. But at least 100 cm. They grow very fast, as you have seen in the video. My plant has 2. 5 years and it almost filled that portion of 1 meter!
@REDonFIRE2 ай бұрын
@@TheLavenderFarmer then if it grows very fast then I should plant it further away so it doesn’t get overcrowded correct? I keep reading that these plants can get up to 8 feet wide so why do people plant them so close together is my question if they’re fast growing.

@@REDonFIRE because they want the hedge fuller faster. I would plant them 70-100 cm apart, you can just as well prune them when they are crowded! 😊
