satoka's Obiage is absolutely stunning. , i love how relax the girls are. when one of the guy asked were is the rest room, satoka answers, over there ! in a formal zashiki she would have to walk the customer to the rest room and wait until he comes back. but this is one freaking informal zashiki and this must have been so fun for the maiko and the guest. a little less for the geiko though because tey are trained to be able to use the most poetic language to say the most trivial things, even sometimes risque things . on top of being exceptional performers and musician and accomplished dancers. but that is not what this banquet was about. too bad, the guests missed the occasion to enjoy top class subtle entertainment . which is usually what happens when the guests do not speak japanese fluently. and that is why the ladies make the guest drink and play drinking games and sometimes dance to the over played gion kouta. the maiko and geiko call these custmers gion kouta konpira fune fune kyaku, because you just dance to this song and play a drinking game and this is over. and that is why geiko prefer not to go to thiese party or stay just quiet in the corner while the maiko just act silly and play around, mesmerizing the guest with their exotic make up and very exuberant kimono. while in a real zashiki, the maiko just sits and remains quiet pouring drinks while the geiko and jukata do all the talking and real entertaining. that's the contrast of the hade maiko and the shibui hannari geiko , most foreigners like the exuberant maiko furidode hikizuri kimono and long darari obi, but for a real connoisseur , these are just appetizers. a geiko's hikizuri and obi is always a lot more complicated and expensive to produce and yet look more plain and simple . that7s the whole japanese aesthetic , but it takes to be born there or spent decades in the country to appreciate it. in japan, less is more, while in western countries, less is just less and more is more.

Great, now I really feel like an old man. It seems just like yesterday to me - but of course it was pre-internet, pre-cell phone, pre-steady-cam for video cameras, so these videos are pretty jumpy. I guess it has been that long.
