I imagined he was given another name, maybe by his orc overseers while slaving in the pits. Then he escaped and kept the name as a reminder of his time as a captive and determination to avenge himself and the friends he had to leave behind. Good ol' Rog. Legend.

Yes, I agree that the English dub of this short is very different than the Russian one. It’s essentially a completely different, original soundtrack. But the English localization team that worked on this project knew their audience. It clearly was given a “Disney Fairy Tale” treatment, as its soundtrack sounds lifted from a classical era Disney Princess film. I suppose if by “cheesy” you mean a whimsical, dreamy feel then you might be right. But as someone who’s seen both versions, this soundtrack speaks to me more. It certainly feels and looks very nostalgic. And I do prefer the English dub, although the original Russian version is deserving of a watch as well (if simply for comparison’s sake).
