How did you activate Autopilot while beeing in trailer mode? Is that thru the Enhance Commander (as I see you have a S3XY Know)?

@rinksdinks Yea some UMCs have different ways to communicate with the cars I think and the different charging logics will react differently. I think Audi will charge on pretty much anything as long as there is a control connection and power on the pins 😂 Volvo might be more careful with that!

I‘ve posted a short video on this over on Twitter as you can see here: x.com/dieserniko/status/1804633707787231502 I couldn’t see this on my normal test loop as the highbeams stay on for the whole loop so I need to adapt my testing in the future there!

I def can see the difference on low beam in the dim lit areas. Hard to explain but on my RHD MY model there two bright lit blocks on the left side of the car which quickly move with steering wheel. It only works above 30 kph and it has to be dark enough to see the light pattern, at which the high beam usually comes on. High beam doesn’t “turn” but the lit area is so wide so I don’t think the turning is required per se. Not a patch on iQ light which physically turn the lens, though. Haven’t driven on motorway yet but I don’t think it will solve the “blinding oncoming truck while on autopilot” problem.

Bmw does adaptive headlights better using both the main lamps and additional side bulbs that light up when turning steering wheel in that direction. Tesla only has the slightly moving bulbs (which is how headlights are adjusted) so probably why it doesn’t so much.

I agree with your testing. I’m in the US so no matrix for me. The low beam is most visible for movement from the light and it is hard to spot the movement. The light swivel to the max left or right with not a lot of steering angle basically immediately, and it doesn’t turn as much as expected. Because of that it is very hard to know the difference while driving. I can see the movement with high beam only with dashcam footage but it’s there.

Great video. Being a highland owner myself I agree with mostly anything you say here. The car is really good. What I noticed about the head light when compared is that the old one lights a bit higher and a bit wider. Not to much but noticeable. The big difference was the colour temperature of the light. The new one has a much colder light (higher Kelvin number) than the old ones that has a much warmer colour. Here the matrix lights works extremely well out in traffic. No blinking from oncoming cars. Except for trucks as you mentioned because the truck driver sits higher and the car don't recognise the truck light until too late because it's so much lower than the truck driver. But that was the same problem I had in my previous car to the Volvo. Think that will be a hard problem to solve because all automated systems has their shortcomings because they have to see what is there before reacting, not like you and me that understands that even if we can't see the truck lights we know that we are going to blind the driver if not turning off the high beam lights in time. If you press the high beam key for long it will shut off the high beam even if autopilot is engaged. And after that it stays off until you engage them again.
@dieserNiko
@dieserNiko 3 ай бұрын
Thank you and also thanks for that great comment! Yes, I thought the same about the light temperature, it was well less noticeable to me when driving to what we can see in the video. For trucks, we just need to have more sensible cameras or sensors to detect the small lights on top that we as humans can recognize - I’m sure that will come in the future sometime… And about that highbeam button: doesn’t it still light up the highbeams even if you long press the button? That would then blind oncoming traffic again or am I wrong there?
@mrexcet
@mrexcet 3 ай бұрын
@@dieserNiko I'm doing the long press when the high beams are already on to make them disengage specifically when trucks are approaching so they are already fired up. To prevent them to fire up from regular driving lights you can go into the meny and disengage them from there. If trying the long press when you have the ordinary driving lights the high beam will fire up and blind the oncoming traffic.
