It's a very cool piece, I really enjoyed it :D Can I ask how long it took you to finish it? And how was the creation process for this work?
@xhqrry-san4 күн бұрын
if im not mistaken, around 3-4 days the idea of this sparked when i heard pierre sancan's flute+piano sonatine as well as godowsky's java suite here i attempted to replicate the mystical vibe these two pieces have, glad u liked it! :D

A few things I want to mention about the violin parts: - octaves are a pain to play on the violin. Unless there is a really good reason to play them, they should usually be avoided. It's a mistake pianists tend to make when writing for violin usually to make the melody more apparent but it's just not comfortable to play on the violin (if it even is). - same problem with some of the chords. If you invert the chords differently they can be more comfortable to play. The high chord in bar 23 for example requires an awkward (and super fast) shift and large hands. To play it you'd need to place your fourth finger in 4th position on the a and d string and third finger in fourth position on e string. Playing fifths is also always kind of uncomfortable (not impossible) but it's usually easier to play if the chord is inverted in a different way. Anyway that specific chord is just too high given that the previous notes were so much lower - shifting that quickly is really difficult. I advise that you try to imagine how a violinist would realistically play a chord because chordal playing on the violin is much different from chordal playing on the piano. Or simplify it. - some of the double stops in the pizzicato part are also really awkward to play. The section with the fifths especially. You could get the same effect by just not writing it as double stops and more as a melody (only one note at a time). - it's hard for me to imagine what skill level the violin part of the piece is supposed to be for. The whole violin part just seems like it was originally written for piano. Your musical ideas are really nice! But I advise that you simplify the violin part overall as it always seems to switch between pretty nicely playable and pretty much not playable. Maybe look into how a violin is played to avoid some awkwardness for the player? But other than that, the piece sounds nice! Keep going!

ty for the long yet helpful feedback mate :) the reason why the violin parts may be too "complex" is because i wanted to make a change from my first violin+piano sonata (also uploaded in my channel) where i got feedback (or a comment) from a fellow composer that most of the violin parts sounds a bit "primitive" (besides, perhaps, the super large chords noticable such as in the final bar of the 3rd movement) i get that some chords are a hastle to play here, though i could suggest just arpeggiating it? (forgive me if im being superstitious here ;-;) the reason why i didn't write them as arpeggios is because musescore doesn't play them the way i like it to be regarding the octaves, at 1:10 i took inspiration from the middle part of ysaye's poeme elegiaque where he uses them to achieve dramatic effect (which i tried to resemble here), though perhaps like u said, i should reduce its usage ._. the only research and knowledge i've had from violin playing and its convenience is from g o o g l e (and i kind of imagined placing my fingers on an imaginary fingerboard) this helped quite a bit for me as an ex-guitarist, but my overestimation of how wide violin positions are probably exemplified the difficulties of chords, shifts, etc. but again, thanks for some violin playing insight! maybe i can ask u for advice (especially since i already have ideas for the rest of the movements of this sonata)
@theofriese41624 күн бұрын
@@xhqrry-san Thanks for giving insight! I'm not sure what you mean by arpeggiating the chords? On the violin you can only play two notes at the exact same time so you'd technically have to arpeggiate chords anyway. It seems that you were just trying to write something virtuosic for the sake of it. Which is okay! I don't think you were intending this piece to be played anyway but just be aware that each instrument works slightly differently from another and that when you do intend one your pieces to be played then perhaps ask a few player that you know play their instrument well if they can revise this piece. I'm not sure if you can really ask me for advice as I'm also just a beginner and couldn't teach you much about anything besides some playability things for the violin. Anyway, good luck on your music journey! EDIT: I forgot to say that taking inspiration from these super virtuosic pieces is always something to be careful about as they know very well why they did some things. Ysaye was a masterful violinist, one of the best and he knew the violin and its limits better than pretty much any person. It's just hard to imitate some decisions they took if you are not that experienced yet.
@xhqrry-san4 күн бұрын
@@theofriese4162 i meant arpeggiating as having to jump ur fingers to their positions on the higher strings if necessary (like on the piano) i focused more on the audio aspect of this piece hence i may sometimes disregard playability (except for piano parts) however there are times where i ask people why can decently play certain instruments about it (ex. i did this when composing my opus 6 guitar+piano sonata) also it's fine if u could only provide me with knowledge of violin playing :D, thanks again!! extra edits : yeah ysaye probably isnt the ideal figure to get inspiration from (when it comes to composing for violin), but i think it was worth the risk of experimenting with more complex styles on the violin as i now know where to draw the line between "ideal to play" and "too uncomfortable to play" also, im surprised u didn't mention anything about the artificial harmonics towards the end lol
@theofriese41622 күн бұрын
@@xhqrry-san I just had a look at the artifical harmonics towards the end again and they are all playable. I guess in bar 178 it could be a bit difficult to get a clean shift on that last harmonic because of the tempo but if you can play the bar prior to that you won't have any problems with those artifical harmonics.

this was such a good listen. reminds me a lot of chopin’s first piano concerto (maybe it’s just the key of e minor-which happens to be the key of his concerto). loved the wide rangeof dynamics. glad the youtube algorithm brought me here. by the way, would it be ok if i orchestrate this piece into something like a concerto? i heard this piece and i thought an orchestration would be quite fitting

This sounds really great! I like how each part has its own structure and the dynamics make it a lot better. Great job! And I also want to share an advice with you. The sheets look quite messy. For example, in the first part of the sonata there are moments when the tempo rises from 190 to 250 and declines to 200, and notes are still quarters or eighths. You should reduce the tempo and use more eighths and sixteenths. It's hard to count 250-320 bpm for everyone, and there are many parts when you use presto as a tempo. Therefore, everything else looks pretty good and organized. The advice is optional so if you want you can continue in your own way.
@xhqrry-sanАй бұрын
thanks for the advice! when i wrote that part i was having ideas of mimicking the style of speedcore music (i.e. electronic tracks with relatively high bpm) perhaps i should have written the tempos as dotted halves lol, cuz i did have problems with naming the "prestissimos" at some point
