No I do not. I haven't done very many recipe videos because they don't tend to get many views. Plus setting up the camera in the kitchen is kind of a pain with how small our kitchen is.

Did your chickens cause the cups to turn and leak all the water out? Our cups didn't leak, but did turn. If the cups get sideways, they will empty the bucket

I have not had the problem. I did have once where the nuts on the inside of the bucket worked loose and it leaked, so now I just check to make sure they are tight each morning, but never had the cups turn.

So a couple of things: I have a couple of pieces left in the top of my garage planned for a future update to the greenhouse, and a lot of it I used for windbreaks for my chickens in their run during winter. Additional note is that I am in the process of replacing the corrugated plastic roof I ended using with a metal roof over this past week. I hope to do a video update on that in the next few days.

My sweet basil finally in a long time growing well and its very dark green. I made a good potting mix with canna Coco and used vermiterra worm poop and use worm vatility. Surprisely those seeds only sprouted one which was the only non dud seed like the rest were. I thought about maybe throwing it away and put more seeds this time since better chances, but decided maybe i should appreciate what i have and take care of of the sweet basil, but it also have a very strong sweet aroma on it and growing really nice. Unfortunately there's alge that grew around the sides of the transparent container and i can kinda see it when i put direct light to it. What should i do to combat that so it dont go on surface or ruin the roots??
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 7 күн бұрын
Can try adding a little cinnamon to the top of the soil to prevent overgrowth as well as maybe putting a dark container around it. If your sides are transparent and letting light in that may be increasing ability for the algae to grow.

From my understanding, yes it can be. Young shoots can be eaten raw or cooked, but it is very mucilaginous, without much flavor. So probably not worth it. Additionally, you should always do additional research before consuming any wild foraged plant to ensure there aren't additional properties that have toxicity or that you may have allergic reactions to.

@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 8 күн бұрын
If they haven't been treated with medicine, yes you can eat them. Mycoplasma doesn't transfer to humans. If you have treated with Denagard or another type of medicine, you need to wait 10 days to 2 weeks before consuming the meat. Chicks will most likely be infected since it transfers from the hen to the chick in the egg.

Depends on the state. Some states it's illegal (like Texas). Other states you have to get permission from the AG Dept. first. But in states like mine, who never had a boll weevil issue and don't have cotton as a commercial crop, it's fine to grow in backyard gardens.

I've got some beautiful huge plants as tall as 10 feet. They are especially nice this year and hanging full of fruit that many song birds including my chickens love to eat. I don't eat any plants anymore but grew up eating poke as a child and for many many years. An old man got me eating the berries when I was ten years old and I still eat a few while I'm picking them for my birds. I can't say that I've ever had any effects from eating any part of the plant good or bad. I've heard the stalks are mighty tasty, much like okra but I wouldn't know. Never had any reason to mess with the roots except to relocate a plant. I think it's a sad disservice to perpetuate the unfounded nonsense about the plants. It got a lot of people through the depression years and was once sold in cans on grocers shelves.
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 8 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean about unfounded nonsense. The plants do have a toxicity in them and require proper preparation (and some people have allergic reactions to just handling the plant). They have a lot of good things about them and an interesting history, but its also important to understand the toxicity properties of the plant. It would be a disservice to not share that information.
@beebop9808

Never personally known a single person in my 62 years that has had any kind of issue with the plant. Never heard before the internet started the campaign about this wickedly deadly plant being so bad. Peanuts are deadly for real to a lot of people too. Turns out apparently, you don't let your kids have peanuts when they're growing up they will die from coming in contact with them later in life. Strange world we live in.....
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 8 күн бұрын
@@beebop9808 I don't think there is an internet campaign. And no one said anything about it being wickedly deadly, just caution about the actual properties in the plant. Its not made up, its actual botany. I do know people who have had allergic skin reactions to handling the plant without gloves, although it has never affected me this way. I think you are taking one portion of the video to make an argument and didn't bother with all the other things I mentioned on how the plant was and is used. I personally don't bother with eating it because I have plenty of other wild plants in my yard that can be eaten that don't have toxic properties that I need to be careful with (not to mention it constantly tries to overtake many of my flower beds, and I'm tired of keeping it at bay. Mine is just one take on the plant, and its important for each person to do their own research and make their own decision on if and how they want to use any wild foraged plant. Discussing the chemical make up of a plant isn't a campaign against it.

I'm moving to a new home in the country and I was wondering if I could dig up my celosia from the yard and take them with me? @oneseedoneworld 13 күн бұрын
Yes they don't like the roots disturbed and normally go into a a period of transplant shock for a while after. However since they are annuals, I don't think its probably worth the effort. They are really good at reseeding themselves though. I have huge patches of celosia that I didn't plant that just reseeded from last year. I think it might be easier to just plant new seeds at your new house and the celosia will take it from there! Best of luck with your move!

Hello from Alabama/8A. My grandmother used it for arthritis. We just moved into this neglected house, but I have a dog who doesn't much mess with it YET, but I'm paranoid, so I'm going to pull it. Some of it is huge, so this'll be fun. I have arm protection and good gloves, so hopefully I won't poison myself. :p
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 14 күн бұрын
Some people do have an allergic reaction/skin irritation, however I have pulled it plenty of times without gloves. Most of the toxicity is more if taken internally when not cooked properly, so you should be fine. If yours are large, the root base is probably massive and really hard to get rid of, so you may be dealing with it for years to come. When they are young, they are fairly easy to pull out by the root, but once established, I've found its easier to keep up with them by just weed whacking the sprouts every couple of weeks. Good luck!

We finally have a cool spell here after blistering heat last week. Finally seeing a few new tomato blossoms. I was worried they were done for the season with the early and prolonged heat we were having. The butternut squash have finally coordinated their male/female blooms and lots of squash set on them. Now, if I can just keep the vine borer away. I put some cantaloupe seeds in the compost pile a few weeks ago. They are just starting to put some blooms on. As I was watering yesterday a vine borer had the nerve to fly over and land next to me! Really?!!! I thought it might be safe to plant some zucchini, but will wait another week or two. Mama cat knows a soft heart lives there and chose your yard to bring her kitties! Feral cats in our area hunt the moles in our front yard. One neighbor also feeds them, and another catches them for spaying/neutering.

Glad to hear you are getting a break in the heat too! I hope your butternut squash do well! Those vine borers are the devil, although I've never had them bother my butternut squash. The feral cats have helped with the rodent problem around the chicken run. I rarely see a mouse anymore, and for a while in the fall and early spring I had a couple of rats in there that I was having an issue getting rid of, but they disappeared within a couple of weeks of the cats showing up.

I bought a townhouse in NC that has 5 FIVE trumpet vines growing up the supports for the deck. I thought it was going to be beautiful…..and they do provide shade and nesting places for the birds. I looked here to see what to do about all the “suckers” it puts out daily….I may just have to pull them out, but am concerned about the roots continuing to grow. Horribly invasive and I can’t keep up with how fast and vigorous it grows.

I've saved and successfully used bean seeds, but somehow that just feels like it doesn't count, haha. Last year I let my lettuce and an overwintered carrot bolt and go to seed and harvested and dried the spent flowers, but thanks to my laziness they're still sitting in a paper bag awaiting me to get the seeds off if I can... I let an overwintered kale plant bolt this year and have a huge potential seed harvest there. I'm also letting an overwintered beet go. I'm really curious about that one. Oh, I guess I do regularly save my heirloom tomato seeds, haha, that counts! Thanks for the spinach seed tutorial!
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 25 күн бұрын
Saving bean seeds totally counts! I haven't had to buy scarlet runner beans in years due to always saving a ton. Did you have any lettuce that reseeded itself and came up on its own? Most of my lettuce this year (all buttercrunch) was all from the plants bolting and reseeding. I didn't plant any this year. I have an overwintered beet as well, but the seeds still don't look mature to me yet. Its growing out of the bottom outside of one of my raised beds. I keep mowing around it, but its getting pretty bushy and starting to annoy me. lol
@alpinesheep4896
@alpinesheep4896 25 күн бұрын
@@oneseedoneworld That's some pretty serious success with your scarlet runners! This year I planted my entire bed of butterbeans with saved seeds - I think I may never need to buy those again either 😁 Yes! I did actually have some volunteer lettuces from the bolted plants. I was surprised because I had dug up that entire raised bed to add some filler to the base and completely disrupted the soil. I wonder if I would have had an entire nice bed of lettuce if I hadn't had to do that. Maybe I'll get them all to just reseed this year. That would be amazing. Lol at the annoying beet 😂 mine doesn't look quite mature either. I wonder if it plans on dragging this out until fall??

@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 26 күн бұрын
Since mine is outside, I generally just do a quick spray out with the hose in each cup since the chickens will still sometimes drop some grit or dirt in there. I have also occasionally just wiped them out with a rag and about three or four times a year I take them completely off the bucket and soak them in some soapy water or vinegar/water mixture to make sure all parts are clean that I can't reach.
