Hi, I have a MacBook Pro M1 running Sonoma 14.5. I don't get the APFS options when I go moo erase the External SSD. Any advice?
@lucid-tutorials6 күн бұрын
Hello Sergio, Try the following steps to see if they resolve your issue. 1. Disk Utility APP: • Open Disk Utility from Applications > Utilities. • In Disk Utility, select "View" in the toolbar and then "Show All Devices" to ensure all devices are being displayed. • If the drive appears in Disk Utility, select it and click "Erase" in the toolbar. • In the dialog box that appears, make sure the scheme is set to GUID Partition Map. Next, click "Erase" to format your drive. 2. Check System Information: • Go to the Apple menu > Select System Settings > Click General in the left sidebar > Scroll down until you see System Report. In the left sidebar, scroll down until you see the USB section. Click it to see if your external drive is listed. This can help determine if the drive is being recognized at all by your Mac. 3. Run First Aid: • If the drive appears in Disk Utility, try running First Aid to check for and repair any errors. • Select the drive or partition and click "First Aid." 4. Reset SMC and NVRAM: • Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM can sometimes resolve hardware detection issues. • Instructions for resetting SMC and NVRAM can be found on Apple's support site. If none of these steps work, the issue could be related to the drive itself. It may be worth trying the drive on another computer to see if it's recognized there. If the drive is still not recognized, it could be a hardware failure, and you may need to contact the manufacturer for support.

Thanks for your reply. I managed to bring up the APFS options after I'd formatted the disk using a different format. If that makes sense!!

I can not find encripted option on mac os sonoma14.5 on macbook air m3
@lucid-tutorials14 күн бұрын
Hello ARGHYA, If you can't find the encrypted option in Disk Utility on your MacBook Air M3 running macOS Sonoma 14.5, there are a few potential reasons and solutions to consider: 1. Disk Utility Interface: Make sure you have selected the correct drive or partition in Disk Utility. The encryption option might only appear when the correct item is selected. 2. APFS Format: The encryption option is typically available for APFS (Apple File System) volumes. If your drive is not formatted as APFS, you might need to reformat it. 3. Admin Privileges: Ensure you have administrative privileges. Encryption options may not be available if you are not logged in as an admin user. 4. Update macOS: Verify that your macOS is up to date. Sometimes, missing features can be due to software bugs that are resolved in updates. 5. Compatibility: Not all drives support encryption. Ensure your external drive or partition supports encryption. To check and troubleshoot these issues, follow these steps: 1. Select the Correct Drive: - Open Disk Utility. - Select "View" in the upper left corner and choose "Show All Devices." - Select the appropriate drive or volume. 2. Format as APFS: - In Disk Utility, select the drive or partition. - Click "Erase." - Choose "APFS" or "APFS (Encrypted)" from the format options. - If you choose "APFS," you can later enable encryption by right-clicking the drive in Finder and selecting "Encrypt." 3. Admin Privileges: - Ensure you are logged in as an admin user. - If necessary, log out and log back in as an admin. 4. Update macOS: - Go to "System Settings" > "General" > "Software Update." - Install any available updates. I hope you overcome the issue soon.

it says my volume cant be resized? any idea why?
@lucid-tutorials22 күн бұрын
Hello, When a volume can't be resized, it could be due to several potential issues, including: 1. File System Limitations: Some file systems have specific limitations regarding resizing. For example, certain file systems might not support shrinking or expanding. 2. Disk Space: There may not be enough free space on the disk to expand the volume. Conversely, if you're trying to shrink a volume, files may be at the end of the volume, which prevents it from being resized. 3. Partition Layout: The disk's partition structure can affect resizing. For instance, if partitions are adjacent to the one you want to resize, it can limit your ability to expand or shrink the volume. 4. Bad Sectors: Bad sectors on the disk can prevent the resizing operation from completing successfully. 5. Active or Mounted Volume: Some operating systems and file systems require that a volume be unmounted or not in use before it can be resized. For example, you may be unable to resize the system volume while the operating system is running. 6. Encryption: If the volume is encrypted, you might need to decrypt it before resizing. 7. Lack of Tools or Permissions: To resize a volume, you may need specific tools or administrative permissions. Some operating systems have built-in tools, while others might require third-party software. It's important to BACK UP your files in case something goes wrong. I had already done that, but I still don't see the volume indicator. That's because I have a pair of external speakers physically plugged into the external headphone jack of my MacBook Pro. Therefore, the menu always shows a headphone icon instead of the volume level. I think there's nothing that can be done to change that. It appears to be part of the OS. That's a shame, because I would really like to know the system volume level regardless of which output device is in use.
@lucid-tutorials23 күн бұрын
Hello Lance, Thank you for visiting Lucid Tutorials. Unfortunately, the icon in the menu bar doesn't display the system volume when external speakers or headphones are connected. However, once disconnected, the headphone icon changes into a speaker icon. I would prefer to see the speaker icon in the menu bar, too. Even though I have been seeing the headphone icon in the menu bar for a long time, I still haven’t gotten used to it. I think we have to put up with this unwanted change. It is a minor issue and we can ignore it. If you are interested in FREE and USEFUL apps to improve your Mac’s performance, please check out the link below. You might find something you like. Hello Sándor, Cloning may not work if you use a Silicon Mac like M1 or M2. However, it worked on Intel Macs, and I had no problem booting from an external SSD. If you have an Intel Mac, use the Disk Utility app to check your internal disk to ensure no problems with your internal SSD. If you wish to attempt cloning again, you may need to reformat your external SSD and download the latest version of Carbon Copy Cloner.

What lubricant do you recommend? I googled "electronic safe lubricant" and I get all sorts of weird stuff: lubricants for spark plugs, graphite powder lubricant for office equipment, lubricants for guitar strings, lubricants for fishermen... Nothing specific for electronics, other than "silicone", whose main feature is to be able to "keep moisture away", which I don't think is the goal here... Oh there was one brand, Compu-lube, which seemed great, but just the shipping is $30!! Suggestions?
@lucid-tutorials2 ай бұрын
Hello, I don’t have any specific brand in mind. I have also come across Compu-lube, but I can’t buy it where I live. The last time I fixed my mouse, I used a product that wasn’t made for electronic products. However, it stopped the clicking problem. iFixit recommends 3-IN-ONE, and some people use WD-40 for electronic products, while others don’t recommend it. In many cases, a can of air spray solves the issue. I can’t justify spending $30 on a can of lubricant to solve the clicking problem; I would prefer to buy a new mouse. If I come across a suitable product, I will let you know. Great video, I've tried encrypting a SD card as per your video. After the process, the SD Card shows up on the desktop. However after I eject and reinsert it it doesn't show up on the desktop or Finder. It only shows up in Disk Utility. I'm running Sonoma 14.4.1 on M1 MacBook Pro and I've done this successfully on my old Mac running High Sierra. I just can't get it right on Sonoma. If I use an unencrypted SD Card (exFat) it shows up on the desktop every time no problem Any advice?
@lucid-tutorials3 ай бұрын
Hi Andrew, It sounds like there might be an issue with how the encrypted SD card is being mounted on your M1 MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try: Check Finder Settings/Preferences: In Finder Preferences, make sure that the option to show external disks on the desktop is enabled. To do this, open Finder, go to Settings/Preferences (Cmd +,), and under the General tab, ensure that "External disks" is checked. Check Disk Utility: Open Disk Utility and select the encrypted SD card from the list on the left. Check if the SD card is mounted. If it's mounted, try unmounting it and then remounting it to see if it appears on the desktop. Restart: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve issues like this. Restart your MacBook Pro and see if the encrypted SD card shows up properly afterward. Check System Report: Open "System Information" by going to the Apple menu > About This Mac > More info > scroll down and click System Report in the right window. In the System Information window, select "USB" from the left sidebar and check if your SD card is listed under the USB section when inserted. This can help confirm if the system recognizes the SD card properly. Try to format your SD card again. [ Make sure to back up your files before going through the whole process again.] Try using a different SD card or USB flash drive to see if it appears on the desktop. Reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM (on Intel-based Macs) or PRAM (on M1 Macs) can sometimes resolve issues with peripheral devices. Instructions for resetting these can be found on Apple's support website. I hope that the issue will be resolved soon.

It went away when I installed Sonoma 14.4.1. How can we run it on Sonoma 14.4.1? Please help.

Hello Ibrahim, Can you please provide a clear explanation of the problem? When you say it went away, can you explain what you mean?

@@lucid-tutorials After updating Mac Sonoroma 14.4.1, the pixelated smart album that I installed illegally and free of charge does not open anymore, everyone is experiencing this problem. Python has been canceled, how can I solve it?
@italkitalk-pz8dd4 ай бұрын
@@ruzgarinoglupoyraz Hello, I don't have the same app on my system. Therefore, I cannot provide the exact solution to your problem. However, if you have a backup available, you can try reinstalling it. Alternatively, you can wait for your app to be updated, which may resolve the issue. It's worth noting that sometimes updating your Mac OS can lead to new problems. If that's the case, it's best to be patient and wait until a fix is available. If that's not possible, consider downgrading your OS to the previous version that works for you.

Hello with this way drivers can open in Windows??
@lucid-tutorials4 ай бұрын
Hello Kosmas, Thank you for visiting LUCID TUTORIALS. Regarding the video tutorial, you can’t use the password-protected USB drive created on a Mac using Disk Utility on a Windows PC. If you want to use an external USB drive on both a Mac and Windows machine, then you need to select the ‘ExFAT’ format from the Format pop-up menu in the Disk Utility application on your Mac. This way, you can use your drive with Mac and Windows, but it won’t be password protected. If you want to protect it with a password, you need to look for a third-party encryption tool that supports cross-platform encryption to encrypt the contents of the USB flash drive. What is SHIFT+COMMAND+4? I mean what you mean by COMMAND?
@lucid-tutorials4 ай бұрын
Hello Sohail, The Command Key is located next to the Option Key on your Mac keyboard. To take a screenshot on your Mac, you need to hold down three keys at the same time - Shift, Command, and 4. This will give you a crosshair that you can drag over the area you want to capture. Once you have selected the desired area, release the mouse button and the screenshot will be saved on your desktop or download folder. I hope this explanation is helpful to you!
