2007 for my favourite Bb, 1989 for G. As much as I love the rich, full sound of a Bb, you can't beat the raw power of G horns.

I read somewhere on KZfaq that whenever Phantom does a kick halt the volume cranks exponentially. And in Juliet they do like 3 in the closer. I so wish I could have seen this one live.

Saddened by the fact that the original Elsa's of 1979, and original Spartacus of 1981 were omitted for shows that were the second and third iterations. Maybe I am biased because I marched in version 1 of Elsa's and Spartacus -- both shows without electronic crap and band instruments.

Foe me phantom's 1979 show is one of their best ( old school). Their horn line blew everyone away that year.They should have won the title that year. Oh to be young again.
@JHCMPR7 ай бұрын
why are so little people talking about 1989?! THE SOPRANOS, CROWD REACTION, AND BASS HIT OF 18:45 IS INSANE, and is arguably the darkest closer in this whole video, plus who doesn’t love Dvorak 9?

Every now and then I watch this video. I am always amazed that Into The light was not recognized as one of the best shows PR performed. It certainly should have placed higher than 4th. JD Shaw's book was beautifully written and Paul and Sandi Rennick writing was truly inspired for one of the most talented battery and front ensembles they have ever had. But the visual design of Myron Rosander IMO was probably prophetic. It's as if he was sensing he was near the end of his life and it is shown through Into The Light. The ending seems to be his final goodbye. When one thinks about the score it is as if he sensed the opportunity fo express his life through the music of drum corps.

I love at 14:00 when those color guard in the back are DASHING to the front with those heavy big blue drapes to cover the horns. I marched corps, and yes, it IS an athletic activity!

I love the ending of the video where it has close ups of some of the members. I marched corps in the 70's. In every era you put in all your effort, and leave it all on that field! Nothing better than getting that standing ovation for that effort!

Been following phantom since highschool in the late 90s. I love that they are the only Corp to do classical music every year. Sad to see their all black unis go.

1989 New World Symphony was and is my favorite of all from the Phantom Regiment. As an '89 Scout alumni, when we toured with them I couldn't help be mesmerized by this closer. The move at the end ... the classic triangle formation, drum break, and legs kick out ... pure awesome! There's a reason that move was duplicated so many times in subsequent years!

The shot at 12:53 gives me goosebumps. Not sure what it is about it. But Phantom Regiment coming toward the home side blasting 1812 overture in one long line with a classic 1990s camera catching the shine of instruments and clean uniforms is just awesome! I would have loved to have seen that show live!

My favorite drum Corp of all time: Phantom Regiment!! (you shared 2...1812 and I am Spartacus, thank you 🤗😁) .. On a side note, I've been trying to find an earlier performance, I was young at the time... They were black, and at one point they held out their capes to reveal a deep red underside... can anyone please help me?

So cool you got to see that live! If I only had one segment that shows the power and excitement of drum corps, this would be it! I'm biased because I'm a big Phantom Phan. I marched with Guardsmen in 75 and 76. (A corps also from Illinois) SUTA!

juliet and new world order are my personal favorites. something about the musical shaping and descending lines/features really stand out to me. and A+ for juliet’s story and how it still ties perfectly together with the impactful music

I’m rewatching these shows because I cannot wait until this horrendous Covid situation is over, the DCI stands are packed and normalcy is upon our lives. I would love to yell “ I am Spartacus” to the virus across the world... watching the virus die immediately; so it could never harm another living soul. Peace and safety to everyone.❤️

Phantom has always been one of my favorites. So has Madison scouts, blue devils, and many others. But, if we can get some of these old great Corps from the 90s especially to 4K and dolby it would be a great blessing. I’m a little biased but… Yeah. If you disagree that’s fine. It’s your opinion, but go and watch some old guys melt your faces off without it….

I saw the PR for the first time in hs in 1987. I got hooked on drum corps because of their show. they made a tunnel and went in one end with dark pants and came out the other end with white pants. Wish I knew the year and could see it again.

It is surprising how sloppy some of this is. Big chords Phlaming all over the place. Especially the newer stuff, really sloppy. My go back and check out older stuff. Back when judges took playing together more seriously.
