Nice review. For a ₹10 pencil, a faint cedar smell is more than enough for us in India! Can you make a short review on the worst writing pencils you have got (like top 3 or top 5)? It would be fun to watch. Please.

What a pleasant surprise, another good inexpensive pencil that writes well. I love those. If this unmarked Youva is an Asian pencil for Asian markets, it's a safe bet that it's 2B. A fellow from Malaysia once told me that 2B is all that there is on the usual stationery shops of his country, with HB nowhere to be seen. It's probably regarded as specialised writing equipment, like most #H grade pencils and leads are for us. A shame if you ask me, because I love HB. 2B IMO is too smudgy and has too much potential to make a mess if you touch the writing, and it's also a little too slippery. I like a modicum of friction when I put pencil to paper, it's pleasant feedback and helps me control the applied pressure. Cedar is a group denomination, and this is probably an Asian continental species of it. IIRC Japan has its own species of cedar that they make pencils out of, though I'm not sure if it's American cedar brought in and grown locally. Anyone with insider knowledge feel free to correct me. Whatever the case, this is better than balsa or eucalyptus, so I'm on board. Speaking of Field Notes, do you have a review on it? I know Kevin does, but I'd love to hear _your_ input as well.

A lot of great WW2 era finds in that lot. I just got a Radiolite in one of my last lots that I purchased (last weekend, I believe). Love the sort of Egyptian style font they used on those. I've never been a big fan of these... though I do have a ton of them, newer and older. The last new boxes I bought were probably around 10-12 years ago and they were still being made at that point. They were quite cheap, somewhere between $1-2 for a dozen, IIRC. Not sure if they still make them or not. I found them a bit scratchy and the quality of the wood wasn't the best. The older ones were better than the newer batches, in my experience.

I can fully understand pencil collections getting out of control. I've been collecting seriously for around 15 years and have so many that it would take days to go through them all -- multiple thousands, and donated thousands more. I really do need to organize them by brand. I started a few times, but it's quite an overwhelming project. Most of my full dozen boxes are somewhat organized, but the loose ones really take time.

I always love finding pen & pencil lots at thrift stores. I must've bought hundreds of bags like these over the years. The original Bic Pencils are a nice find. I remember using the black ones growing up and later the modern clear ones throughout college. I have found quite a few of the originals lately, though. The newest ones all have white erasers except the 0.5, which sometimes use either white or gray. The Sharpwriter is refillable, but doesn't refill like a clutch pencil through the tip, it requires disassembly and the lead needs to be fed in through the spring mechanism, if memory serves. The Clickster is a neat find -- I find those from time to time. They're almost always missing the eraser, I assume they never fit quite right and over time just fell out. I see that often with modern Paper Mate Write Bros. pencils as well.

I am amazed by how many books Wesley published. His horse must have had a very smooth gait. What I found lately is that Wesley was one of the richest (in income from his own work, at least, not the rents from land, I suppose) in England during his lifetime, which goes a long way to explain how he was able to finance all of his projects.

I have been to low and high churches, and the most touching and spiritually moving lords supper communion service I have witnessed was in a little KJV baptist church. Ive seen the bells and chimes of catholics and lutherans and all that, and scripture gets read, but something about the simplicity and the reading of the scripture there just hit different. I also must say, I think the ever shrinking place of the bible in protestant churches is why there is a hemmorage of attendance, and we see a flock towards the roman and eastern orthodox churches. Because when the bible takes a back seat, it becomes all about the externals and the show, and quickly it becomes apparent how hollow the modern trends are and the historical ambiance of the liturgy woos the searching soul. It is the scriptures though that makes the difference, it is the power that is needed, lest we merely have an outward show and a hollow center. Rant over. God bless.

It seems that when American Christianity reached the Pacific Ocean, it did all sorts of Californication. My otherwise Baptist great-grandmother never missed the radio broadcasts of The World Tomorrow with Herbert W. Armstrong. And then there's Aimee Semple McPherson, who was pretty much the first evangelist of the airwaves. &tc. In your case, 1 sec per a day is a pretty good result, usually the accuracy of Chinese watches much worse. Thank you for this review of the Nazarene Hymnal….it brought to mind wonderful memories of the old hymns of the Church, the gathering of like believers at camp meetings, and responsive readings of the Word during services. Sadly, in recent visits to various Protestant churches, I observed very few folks carrying Bibles, no Bibles and no hymnals in the seats/pews, and only a few Scripture references on the screens during the services. I will definitely bet the unfortunate-in-English name is an unfortunate mistranslation. Coca-Cola also had a similar mishap in reverse when it went on to brand itself on a certain Asian market, I don't remember which. Teal and white is a good colour combination for stationery, looks very neat and professional. Maybe almost as neat as your mouth after a good brush with Aquafresh! 😜 [comment not sponsored] Still, the name certainly fits, 'cause this is one dark trace. I'd even argue it's a 3B, if not 4B. Must be a great deal for artists in particular. Personally I'm not a fan of excessively soft leads for writing: their inherently poor point retention means you have to re-do the point often and take the pencil off the paper as a result.

Hi MAMO - thanks for another great review from a pencil company that I have never heard of! Seems like many different types of pens and mechanical pencils are sold under the Hauser brand, but their origins seem to be India and Asia. They sure make an effort to highlight the German inspired quality to their products, but I wonder if this is all just a marketing effort without any real German roots or connections. Either way, when you compared these to the Apsara, they were certainly darker. I would venture to say they are one of the darkest India-made pencils I've seen. I had no idea the stock lead was so long. It makes sense, but somehow I never figured someone would make lead pieces longer than 60mm. It's certainly not you that perceives the graphite as lighter, scratchier and overall cheaper, it shows clearly on the footage. And I can easily see the dissatisfaction of the average user with a pencil with graphite like that, as it's not marketed as refillable (and let's agree, being so fiddly to refill is not a good look) so in principle a bad lead is all you get. Couple that with the cheaper-looking plastic colour, and aye, Adam Savage's gripes start to make more and more sense. On a purely subjective aside here, my favourite yellow colour for stationery by far is the 'burnt' honey-mustard of the P209 Sharp and of older American wood pencils.
