Dear Window Seat Please I hope you are well. I'm figuring this is the only way I can contact you, there being no obvious email address. I suppose I'd better introduce myself. I am a relief signalman on the Settle-Carlisle line, work at the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway and am a published railway historian and archivist. About 12 years ago I was approached by the Friends of the National Railway Museum (Registered charity No.273829) to participate in a project, the Film Archive of Railway Signalling and People (FARSAP). The project was to record on film for future generations the means of railway signalling in the UK at a time when Network Rail laid out its plan to eliminate the last areas of mechanical signalling and re-modernise ageing power signalling areas over the next three decades. For many locations, timing was vital and indeed several areas have been modernised since filming was carried out (Barnetby, Lincoln, Blackpool, Vale of Glamorgan etc.) I was appointed to cover South Wales and the North-West of England, covering of course my own area of work. I am currently working on a documentary covering Barry signal box. I am wishing to give a historic context to modern day film footage that I have composed. A fifty minute interview with two retired railwaymen brought forth memories of not only the immediate Barry area, but also locations they had worked on the South Wales Main Line and parts of Taff Vale and Rhymney railways. I would very much like (admittedly more "need!") to incorporate a few seconds of this film with full credit given to you. The founding of the airport was a vital revenue stream for the ailing Vale of Glamorgan line. The brief cameo of the line passing beneath especially helpful! No profit nor monetary gain is to be yielded from the finished piece and the intention is to stream from FARSAP's own website as film documentaries of various locations, some interspersed with interviews with retired railway staff. Some of my existing work is shown via the link below and the finished film will take on much the same format: www.s-r-s.org.uk/videoPages/BleaMoor.php Blea Moor - s-r-s.org.uk If you were to consider granting permission, I would gladly send a hard copy of the finished film to you. Your contribution would be vital to the success of the film. Yours in Anticipation Rob Daniels [email protected]

This problem I had one with a Lufthansa Crew, too. I had also two times the request, where they can watch the video later. So it can be really different. On my latest video also from MUC to CFU you can hear, also some comment from the FA, but I could record my video without problem. I had once an aborded take off in Lissabon with SATAs A-310 on the flight to LIS-SMA/PDL and we needed to deboard and wait for more than one hour in the terminal. But this was the only one in more than 700 flight.

Oh you what a luck that you had the oportunity to go on the A-330 to PDL. It is really rare on this route. I was going only once with the A-330 from SATA back to Lissabon. Next time it will be only the A-321 Neo from TAP.

It certainly won't do any harm, but the Twin Otter has impressive STOL capabilities, so it's fine either way. There are three "runways" marked in the sand, so whichever direction the wind blows from, it's usually possible to land into the wind.

So the beach is the airport. Didn't think you could land on sand
@windowseatplease
@windowseatplease 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Barra is the world's only beach airport with scheduled airline service. There are other beach airports on other islands, but they are used by air charter and private planes only. The flight times depend on the tides (at high tide, the planes cannot land as the beach is under water). If there is too much water on the beach at low tide, the planes divert. It's a unique little airfield, and the airport and airline staff are super friendly. Tip: if booking a flight to Barra, take the middle seat of the first row. There's no cockpit door, so whover sits in that seat can look into the cockpit and see out the front / cockpit windows. Also, the pilots sometimes offer that passenger headphones so they can listen to ATC and pilot conversations.
