You should read the books that inspired these movies. They’re more detailed, easier to understand and have different endings.

I think Terminator 1 is my favorite movie of all time. I really like the oppressive desperate atmosphere of it, something T2 lacks a bit. I also think using a fixed time-loop as the twist ending for a time travel movie is brilliant. Fun fact, the deleted scenes for T1 reveal that the factory at the end is a Cyberdyne factory, and has the Terminator remains get covered up (a plot point recycled into T2) - which means that the time loop is also directly responsible for the gestation of SkyNet, and that SkyNet and Connor are both sending their respective fathers back in time. I get why the Cyberdyne subplot stuff was cut for pacing, but I really love the concept of it. Edit: Another time-loop plot element cut in scripting was Sarah being identified by metal screws in her leg from an injury and the Terminator checking for those screws in the victims. It would turn out that that injury was actually the one that happens in the factory, further cementing the time-loop from another angle.

Further, T2 is pretty much a hard retcon on the way the Terminator universe functions. This has also always bothered me. My "head-canon" to fix it is a multi-layered time-loop that eventually wraps back after a few loops through different timelines - this works well with Terminator: Dark Fate, too. The thing that kills T3 for me is the tone. It takes the humor elements that I think T2 just manages to pull off and pushes them past the breaking point.

@@amindformadness That head-canon makes sense. I can buy that. And I totally get what you're saying about the tone. I can def think of some moments/jokes off the top of my head that didn't land for me. It wasn't enough to bring it down for me, but I can easily see it bothering others more.

Watch Rogue Heroes, the real story of the origin of the SAS, this is an overblown idea of one special op. Rogue Heroes is based on the real guys, their first missions in Libya. Yes, Ian Fleming worked for SOE, ran many spies in and out of occupied Europe, so, yes, he knew what he was talking about when he wrote the Bond novels, including M, head of what later became MI6.

I actually really liked the film. I thought the extended flashback really helped in showing us where his true anger stems from, and truly explores the personal hatred between the cop and the lead. I actually wished the movie was slightly longer though, as we didn't get much character development for main villain of the film.

The library is a GREAT place to get movies!!! Oh, Errol is so dreamy!! I loved "Captain Blood". Olivia really liked Errol, too, but said she wouldn't dream of having a personal relationship with him outside of work. By all accounts, Errol "got around" and was a rascal. His autobiography is titled "MY WICKED, WICKED WAYS." Bette Davis wanted Laurence Olivier to play Essex opposite her Elizabeth, but got Errol instead. They did not get along. I would have enjoyed "GWTW" a bit more if Errol had played Rhett Butler. But, as we know, the public demanded Clark Gable. Gable did not want to do "GWTW" and had hissy fits all throughout the filming.

Charlie: Julie Andrews is one of my favorite people. I LOVE "Victor/Victoria" and think it is the best film of the three. I'm sorry you did not like it, but people either love V/V or they don't... I'm gay, too, so there's THAT important factor in my loving it!! I did not like "Darling Lili", either, so I completely agree with you on that. Lastly, I was the guy who suggested in the comments of another video that you review "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" and you did!!! I'm glad you LOVED THAT ONE!!! (Classic!!) I LOVE your energy level. Stay Safe & Well: Thanks!! Oh, see Julie Andrews in "DUET FOR ONE" (1986) and new on Blu-Ray. She plays a violinist stricken with multiple sclerosis. It's a drama, and obviously not a musical. Thanks so much.

Hi, Charlie: Katharine Hepburn had better on screen chemistry with Cary Grant than she did with Spencer Tracy, in my opinion! I also believe there's an undercurrent of sadness in "Holiday" that helps keeps the rich characters relatable (Remember, the brother Ned is alcoholic, and non-conformist Linda is deeply unhappy. Johnny is dissatisfied, and wants more out of life while he's young. Julia is just a stuck-up "B"). I'm sorry you didn't "get" "Bringing Up Baby". I did, but it's not a film for everybody. People certainly didn't "get it" in 1938, either. "Sylvia Scarlett" is my least favorite of the three films.

This was the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. This was the territory of Fritz Von Erich and his sons. This was the era of Harley Race, Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody, Jerry Lawler, Kamala, Tommy Rich, The Missing Link and The Fabulous Freebirds. Rest in Peace Texas Tornado. The Iron Claw film shows the hardships and tragedies of the Von Erich family. The film needed two more music montages in the first 45 minutes of the movie since the story dragged at the beginning, but it then picked up for the rest of the film. The only acting weak link in the film came from the actor who portrayed Ric Flair who was atrocious in the role. This is during the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. Shirley MacLaine tends to get on my LAST nerve! But I do agree with you that the Academy Awards are historically and usually a big bucket of horse poop! BTW: Dolly, played by Shirley Booth, is the MAIN CHARACTER of "The Matchmaker", so its about how she gently manipulates everything and everyone around her. I agree; it is WEIRD to see Anthony Perkins and Shirley MacLaine together in such a light romantic farce, because he was shortly thereafter typecast as mentally unbalanced characters, and MacLaine often played characters who are SEVERELY, clinically depressed. It's weird to see both of them in a film where they are happy and smiling.

The store "Psychologist" is my main problem with the 1947 version. I'm so glad you loved the 1994 version because it, too, is my favorite version (A minority opinion, by the way). I agree: the 1994 version "fixed" all my problems with the 1947 version. I used to love the 1947 film (it's still great!), but the 1994 version won my heart, and I can't watch the original 1947 version anymore because it now seems too "old-fashioned" by comparison. (BTW: Have you seen "The Sound Of Music" (1965), and where does it sit on your lists? Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

This movie was smile-inducing to me. Timothée Chamalet was fantastic, the villains were extremely over the top but I found them to be entertaining as well. Paul King brought so much charm, energy, and charism to the screen through his direction. Hugh Grant stole the show despite having limited screen time and the musical sequences were a lot of fun! Not my favourite of the year by any means, but I found it incredibly delightful and I had a great time with it. Great review, Charlie! Keep creating these videos 👍

Thanks! Yeah, I'm so happy that I found these films. And I'm very glad I'm able to share them with others! To answer your question, the short answer is, I wanted to watch three Non-English films from a country I normally don't think of, when thinking of foreign films. You didn't mention that a woman plays God in Dogma. I'll leave her name is a surprise incase anyone decides to see it for the first time. She isn't sexualized at all. I guess it comes down to Jay's character. That's how that character talks. He's either enjoyable to you or not.
@CharlieMoe
@CharlieMoe 8 ай бұрын
You are correct. I had a whole tangent about that that I cut because the movie's treatment of God as a woman is complicated and I was having problems putting my point into words. But since you brought it up, I'll try to verbalize it here. But before I get into that, you said that God isn't sexualized at all, but Jay does. His first line after she leaves is, "You guys wanna hear something sick? I got half a stock when she kissed me." That's him admiting that God turned him on, in other words, sexualizing God. Regardless, here's my thoughts on God being a woman in this film. We definitively see God as a woman. So this means that Serendipity was completely correct in saying that God is a woman. We see it plain as day. And yet, Loki, Bartleby, Azrael, Metatron, and Rufus all mostly only refer to God as "He". (When Metatron shows up with God at the end, he does use the proper pronouns there, in her presence.) Now it was either Loki or Bartlrby who even made a point of how they definitively know that God exists because they both have literally stood in "His" presence. So essentially whenever the men talk about God, they only refer to her as him. In other words, even though God is DEFINITELY a woman in this film, beings that have personality known God for countless millennia, only refer to them by the incorrect pronouns. So what does that mean? There's a lot of ways to look at it. The film could be trying to say that God's gender fluid. Or that God's gender depends on the gender of the individual interacting with them. God doesn't have a single, defined Gender because they're God, they're everything. God can't just be one thing. I think Metatron kinda vaguely makes that point at the end of the film, but I don't remember the line. Regardless, I like this idea. Yet I don't feel like that's what the film is going for. That's a very modern viewing of it. What it really feels like to me is that Kevin Smith loves to put women on a pedestal because he loves women. He literally made God a woman. That's the highest pedestal there is. But his characters don't show God respect by using the pronouns that they definitively know are correct. It'd be one thing if they were intentionally trying to disrespect God, but doesn't feel like the goal for most of the characters. As mixed as this is, it does feel in line with the rest of the film. Smith makes these strong women, but then constantly belittles them with over sexualization. So it's unsurprising that even though God is a woman, they're shown little respect throughout the film with the constant misgendering. Sorry that was long. Hopefully that made sense. This is why I cut it.

Hussar Ballad is not based on a true story. Nadezhda Durova didn't really want to fight for her country; she wanted to escape the awful fate of a woman in Russian Empire. She didn't start as an officer, like Shura Azarova does; she started as a soldier. Nobody tried to kick her out of the army upon learning of her gender. And so on; there is no real realson to equate Shura with her.
