Addressing crime in Trinidad and Tobago requires a multi-faceted approach. Here are key strategies that could be part of an effective solution: 1. Strengthening Law Enforcement: Enhancing police training, increasing the police force's capacity, and improving technology and resources can help in better crime detection and prevention. 2. Judicial Reform: Speeding up the judicial process, ensuring fair trials, and reducing corruption within the judiciary can enhance the rule of law and deter criminal activity. 3. Community Engagement: Involving communities in crime prevention efforts through neighborhood watch programs, community policing, and local initiatives can help build trust and cooperation between citizens and law enforcement. 4. Education and Employment Opportunities: Providing better access to education and creating job opportunities can address the root causes of crime, such as poverty and lack of opportunities. 5. Social Programs: Implementing social programs aimed at youth development, drug rehabilitation, and family support can help at-risk individuals and reduce the likelihood of them engaging in criminal behavior. 6. Anti-Gang Strategies: Targeting gang activities through specialized units, intelligence gathering, and disruption of gang operations can help reduce organized crime. 7. Legislative Measures: Enacting and enforcing laws that address specific types of crime, such as gun control and drug trafficking, can provide a legal framework to combat crime effectively. 8. Public Awareness Campaigns: Educating the public on crime prevention measures, promoting a culture of lawfulness, and encouraging citizen involvement in maintaining safety can contribute to a safer environment. Combining these strategies with a long-term commitment to social and economic development can create a sustainable solution to crime in Trinidad and Tobago.

Again, I maintain my earlier position in espousing the sincerity of both officials from the World Bank and native Caribbean countries in pursuing objectives of solving poverty. First, most particularly in the case of Haiti, it is an open (polichinelles) secret that 99.9 % if not all haitian officials in the last sixty (60 +) years after the deposed cout d’état of the illustrious government of Dumarsais Estimé are crooks. Second, the government of DE made the bureau of statistics its priority as they initiated this initiative in order to jump start development; since, imagine we had the same economic level of development as South Korea, the State of Israel … of which Haiti were supporting by providing aid etc. Now, fast forward to the present situation - as mentioned earlier, we understand the usefulness, the pertinence of “data” “statistics” “interpretations” “analytics” … as indicators of formulating policies on behalf of its constituents or its people. But, but, but my point at first was exactly that: without the right leadership, the right men or women at the right places, credible elected officials, … you will not be able to implement (satisfactory) the right policies on behalf of the poor. In conclusion, the continuation of BM officials in dealing with corrupted, crooked officials, in many ways, its like the fox minding the chicken coop. In other words … please deal with the representative, the actors … at the community level in getting things done. For example, China has gotten, spur not parachuted more than 400 million Chinese out of poverty into the middle class not through questionable “democratic” elections; but through sheer initiative of picking themselves-up by their own boot straps. NOT AID NOR CORRUPTION.

Hello! You have to consider that the crime rates have increased. If you are planning to go to the carnival, implement safety measures and avoid travelling alone.

Hello Marla, many thanks for your deep insights into Caribbean economics and politics. What is the current status of BRICS, and how might the Caribbean (CARICOM) benefit from membership. Happy Thanksgiving 2023!

Hi Marla! You’re looking marvelous. You’re correct, the crime situation is looking hopeless. This is not going to be an easy solution. The whole judicial system has to be revamped. I read where two young men, both under 22 years of age, attempted to invade a house in the west. They were both shot and killed by the homeowner. Between the two deceased bandits they had twenty one pending cases before the court. How do you get bail after you get a second indictment is beyond me.

I agree! I don't understand that either

The solution is money. People need money so they’re not desperate and don’t resort to crime. That can be achieved by nationalizing and socializing TT’s abundant oil reserves, and turning the government into an institution that redistributes wealth, rather than keeps it in the hands of the very richest.

Don't forget, you've also got the US & Britain controlling your government, and you have Western oil companies extracting your oil. You Black & Brown people will get nothing, as it was the British military that acquired the land with force and he US military that has secured the Guyanese borders since Independence. Neocolonialism is real. Guyanese government doesn't even care about the rest of the Caribbean. Venezuela helps the rest of the Caribbean more and it's Spanish & Socialist i.e. it's Eastern (Russian/Chinese) not Western (American, European). India & Africa are mixed, but both have heavy Western control (pro-West leaders in Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, India), but the Eastern influence is rising (see Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, The EFF). So the battle between the capitalists and the common man continues.

T&T is a major Cocaine trans-shipment point and has local distribution of the drug here. The politicians, big businessmen, police, coast guard, judiciary, prisons, customs are all involved. The gangs have links with the politicians and the business cartel, its an inside job. The banks are also involved in the money laundering trade. Security companies, lawyers, forensics and administrators profit from a high crime rate and will like it to remain so.

Jobs. The people of T&T (especially for Men ages 16-40) need jobs directly from the Government. FDR did it in 1933 with the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Also, month to month contract workers in the public sector causes a lot of instability in Family life. Our greatest resource is our People.. not oil.
@jayyy345611 ай бұрын
Import cover irrelevant. As imports are inflated due to imports for oil sector. You should read the sovereign wealth fund document. Guyana has immediate developmental needs it not disappointing it's strategic. The fund after 2025 withdrawals will only be restricted to 3% as outlined by the law.
