This was a fantastic effort from Bill here - a maximum possible 433 score, and only an absolutely other-worldly performance from his long-time grand final rival Nick Terry prevented him from winning the Grand Final of this series too... It would have seemed inconceivable at the time given his formidable knowledge here, but this would actually be Bill's last ever winning appearance on 15-to-1 - in the grand final of this series, he was (as aforementioned) eventually outclassed by Nick Terry, and had to settle for the runner-up spot; then, when he returned in the following series, he was finally eliminated from the show after losing his heat game

I would love to have seen HC calling the army of double denim clad Ian Gillan fans “ fucking morons “ . it came close at Reading Festival in 1983 when the band donned Spinal Tap / Bad News wigs ! & Nick Lowe & The Enid were also playing thankfully . It was my brothers’ 18th birthday which I couldn’t avoid that’s my excuse for being there . Huge blamed their management! Thanks for this 😁👍

Yesterday, the maximum score was achieved in Polish version of this game show (1 z 10). The winner contestant, Artur Baranowski, scored 803 points, because in final round, each correct answer for the "self-nominating" question is worth 20 points!

Watching this couple hours after Polish version of the show, "Ten to One", saw their first maximum scoring contestant in history. Artur Baranowski scored 803 points in the final round, answering all 40 final questions correctly by himself. Why not 433? In Polish version if contestant scores 3 correct answers by the buzzer and asks for question, every correct answer is awarded with double points.

Absolutely love this track (played both ways). But it made me look more into the atrocities of the nuclear testing that took place in Australia. The evil collaborators from England and from Aus are sickening. And there's still so much suffering for the people that live there today. There are many 'out of bounds' places that are very unsafe due to radioactivity. Love the stranglers. God bless them all and R.I.P. Dave and Jet.

This is a truly outstanding performance from contestant Bill McKaig, no hesitations just quick fire answers to a lot of diverse subjects, brilliant performance. Not sure if this is true but according to a Wiki page, he was banned from the pub quiz tournament because of his incredible achievement on 15-1? Bad form on the pub I say.

Thanks for posting Martin. My late father used to watch this a lot, and got quite a few questions right I'm proud to say. If you were going to lose to anyone I'm guessing it would have been someone like Bill. Also what a gent William G. Stewart was on air. I hope he was as genuine and decent off camera. May him and Bill rest in peace. Best wishes to you.

Matti watton, got the highest score, in the grand final, against Olav, I can't remember the other contestants name, over 200 . And the grand final questions were very hard. I wonder how WGS , would do if he was a contestant, he was a very knowledgeable man. I miss those days when this quiz aired in 1988 to 2003. You learn a lot more listening to quizzes than school.

This is the best quiz, no nonsense, about long introductions, some of the people who were on this quiz, won a million on who wants to be a millionaire. Mandela effect, I didn't know , Bill mckaig died. What a very knowledgeable man, William g Stewart, I couldn't believe he died a few years ago. I would've loved him to go against the chasers, RIP to two very intellectual men💙💙🙏...

What makes the achievement more astonishing is the difficulty of the questions in the first round, two-thirds eliminated from the game right off the bat....and Bill was just one of two to survive without injury.

I don't think it was particularly tough but was one of those unusual cases where most contestants picked the wrong seat for them. I'm sure if you shuffled it around to suit everybody then it would be 0 down, 15 to go after the first round.

Always wondered what would have happened if more than 12 players got eliminated at the end of round 1, would they have just replayed the game?

From what I've heard, if more than 12 people were eliminated in the first round, they would have scrapped the round and started again from the top. I'm not sure how accurate this might be though.

I have a funny feeling they purposely made the questions in the final so easy to the point that Bill could get all 40 right only because so many were eliminated in Round 1 and they wanted the final to last all 40 questions to fill out the program.
@paulthompson1466
@paulthompson1466 3 ай бұрын
I don't believe that at all but I do have a suspicion that in the following series they made the questions in the final more difficult for Bill so he couldn't repeat it.
