The base heads are fine... Change the springs before use and your good.

Its always the engine builders fault. I love it when you take in someones worn out junk to help them out and when it fails its all your fault.

Procomp/speedmaster is the junk of the junk. If people need Chinese heads, promaxx are good with good parts. Afr enforcer is a dart platinum 200 copy with good parts. Nkb200 from skip white are the same castings wing good parts (not as good as afr) . Stay away from complete heads from China. Their valve train is garbage. 95% of Chinese rockers are garbage, all Chinese lifters are garbage. Procomp/speedmaster!needs to be shut down from the junk they sell but people keep buying it because it's cheap.

Another excellent video from Pete, covering all the bases to seal and clamp cylinder heads! The term torque is used as a catch all for fastener tightening but it is just a means to an end. The ultimate goal of the fastener is the development of clamp load which is final result of the rotational energy applied. A simple torque spec is good enough for standard care fasteners where stretching/yielding the fastener is not necessary but for the critical joints like heads, rods, mains and flywheel/flex plate you will want to take full advantage of the mechanical properties of the fastener. In these cases a torque + angle spec is used to minimize the clamp load variation resulting from friction coefficient changes! By implementing a low threshold torque and then turning the fastener a predetermined number of degrees, influence of the friction variation between the under head bearing area of the fastener and the thread interface is minimized. The amount of clamp load developed is thus controlled by the material properties of the fastener and the thread geometry because every degree of rotation equates to the amount of tension the fastener is under!

I buy the Chinese heads for port and polishing jobs. All of the hardware gets removed and most of it gets replaced. The castings are perfectly fine.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I knew soeedmaster and procomp was making stuff there and those are two brands that you don't want to get involved with. I was looking at the prices of these on ebay and they are cheap. However I have dealt with detroit diesel heads that come from third world countries and they can't build those things at all. All of them needed to be surfaced right away. We had one where the freeze plug kept leaking because it was manufactured wrong. They didn't install the valve guides straight. The seats were not machined or installed right. The keepers for the lifter arm retainers were horribly wrong(they popped out when we installed the head). Even the machining in the ports were terribly off. This was just five heads and they all sucked. Honestly just get the good brand heads with quality. You buy these knockoffs and you will be crying because they will either destroy your engine or cost the price of two sets of AFR's to get them machined with proper equipment. I would only buy these heads if I wanted to make some art projects.

Anyone with at least 2 brain cells can see that you take pride in your work and even have proof in this video that if you aren't 100% certain about something, you will say you don't know. I appreciate the effort that you put in and all of the knowledge that you share. Keep it up, Pete! You are real good at doing stuff 👏

I'm sorry to hear that someone is making up falsehoods about your work. I've had to defend folks and be defended from folks associating me with some made up crap with no evidence. Thanks for the info on the head gaskets. I've never used the cut ring gaskets and I might look at them. I will tell you that my wastegates got stuck one time at the track and I them lose water at about 50PSI. If not for the fuse built into the gasket and me feeling that I had a HUGE jump in power and getting out of it I would've been rebuilding an engine and 2 Turbo's also.

You guys should use (neatly) cut beer cans around your exhaust, you’ll b surprised how good it work when done correctly. Have them raise from the exhaust 1/4 inch, a mixture of tie-wire and washers or spacers is all you need too fasten (and raise) too the exhaust
@GTRliffe Жыл бұрын
raise the back few% stiffen the springs all round-more so on the rear. You need too know in kilograms the downforce at that speed and your springs should be compressed no more than 20% at peak speed.
