10/10 video I loved the shots and I really appreciate you drawing out the route on the map and describing how to navigate by what you'll see. Been wanting somebody to do the exact same thing for the beach next door at Shaws cove I haven't been able to find the biggest trench.

If you can get in it’s a great dive. My buddy and I swam out around 500’ then dropped down to around 110’ then made our way back in, the bottom has a stair case like rocks around 80’ it looked like the edge of the continental shelf. There’s giant white sea anemones way down there. Stop every 30’ to off gas but slowly make your way along the bottom. Funniest part was swimming out and past a guy fishing in a small boat 😂. Just be careful cuz it can get rough out there. Read the ocean beforehand!

Great video and narration, my go to place (Divers Cove) to dive (1973-1990) in So Cal. We would wear our tanks walk up the stairs and go to the old dive shop (Laguna Dive) on PCH get our tanks filled and get a second dive in.

Marine protected area. Also, you likely aren’t maintaining a cool enough tank, though I don’t know your setup. They like temps in the 50’s and below. Above that they start to cook.

Buy one, this is marine protected area and even if it was not you still cant do that to coral. It took thousands of years for those to be made and so manny people mess it up for everyone else, this spot is so nice because its so far out most people use scooters to reach it. This dive site has a special place in my heart. Please rethink your mindset.

Back in the 70s I was in High School and me and my school buddies surfed most of the various beaches in SoCal . We were avid readers of Surfer Magazine , and they frequently featured photos of people surfing La Jolla Shores , Blacks Beach and other nearby surf spots . We all decided that we should go there and check it out . I then came upon an article that said the La Jolla area was a place often frequented by Great White Sharks , which had routinely been caught off of the Scripps pier . It also said there were submarine canyons adjacent to shallow table areas running perpendicular to the beach that GWS use for coming close to shore and darting into the flats to capture prey . That's when I decided not to surf there , much less than night scuba dive there !! 😳😯🤯

They are there and I often find them while flying my drone in the area but they're generally small so they eat small things like stingrays and they're often times swimming just passed the break among the surfers. By the time they get big enough to eat mammals they head out to deeper water.

Monterey boat launch near cannery row is best for beginners and a seal rookery. I had about 20 pups all around me, just like puppies. California certifies the safest divers due to conditions, poor visibility and currents mostly.

Honestly, some of my most peaceful, restful, enjoyably, days of my life were fishing right there in that cove, one summer about 20 years ago. (Right about where all those hobie cats are parked in your vid.) On weekdays there was almost no crowd. Fun spot because you really needed to know your bait as to what your would catch. Anything dead, like clams, shrimp, squid, would get you a stingray, which were annoying. But using live ghost shrimp was likely for you to catch spotted bay bass, halibut, or Calico bass (aka Kelp bass). The later two, if large enough to be legal, are good eating. And the fish always came in schools. So nothing for hours, then bam, all three to four rods would go off at once. Which is what made it so relaxing, but worth fish, type of place. Great vid! And in case you are wondering, yes, 20 years ago, that was a very common scuba spot then too. They did a lot of training there.
