#4 3xl streamer hook. Down the middle, hook coming out top pretty far back. Eye buried a bit inside the gulp so it doesn't want to slide off.

@benandmasonsworld4734 Will have a look after get off the water tonight. From memory, ugly stik rod, small Penn line counter reel, 15 or 20 lb leadcore, 5 or 6 ft of 14lb fluoro to trolling swivel, then 15 to 25 ft of 8lb fluoro to dodger, and 15 inches or so of 8 lb fluoro to 3xl #4 streamer hook

ok what do mean 2 color or one & half is that the whole color in the water or what? also what pound lead core and how far down do each color run?
@MillerOutdoors1
@MillerOutdoors1 3 ай бұрын
I count the amount of line touching the water, so if the end of the 2nd color of lead core is behind the boat touching the water that's 2 colors out. If the end of the 2nd color is barely off the spool that's roughly 1.5 colors out. I count on about 5 feet down per color out going 2mph. Maybe 6' per color going 1.5 and 3 or 4 feet down per color going 2.5 or faster. It depends on what you're trolling, as that can effect how far down also, but those #'s are trolling something light like a streamer fly or small spoon with no dodger.

Back before we got the 360 flasher we used alot of those small dodgers for salmon with 4" squid for salmon great lakes. We would bend the dodgers in S shape so we could troll them faster. 6' leaders off the dipsy diver was important as well

Do you have a link to the dodgers you like/use? I didn’t know there were dodgers you could troll at 2mph without them doing 360s

Smart Last guy i saw (here on KZfaq) try and drive by a moose needed a new windshield and paint job on his Mercedes. Even crazier was a guy on a snowmobile that drove up way to close to a moose on a narrow track..(his friends filming for further back). He got off about 15 feet away and decided he would "pet" the moose for the camera, As he got closer the moose gave him about 2 seconds of warning (ears back etc which he ignored) The moose reared up and one two kicked him in the chest with his front hoofs knocking him to the ground, then proceeded to stomp on him for a good minute or two .... about half way threw you could hear the hideous sound of the idiots femur snapping !

A precise method of determining fit is to temporarily tape a straw on the shotgun rib. Close your eyes, mount the shotgun, open your eyes. If the fit is correct you should be looking thru the straw and see the bead. Shotgun length of pull can vary for me here in Montana where I wear a t-shirt in September hunting huns and sharptails and may have 2 inches or more with heavy parka hunting roosters in late December.

Great tip about closing your eyes before mounting, gun fit is very important but proper mounting has to be key or it doesn't matter how it fits.. i'm a big rifle shooter and struggle worse than Elmer to hit anything with a shotgun, they are two totally opposite disciplines and I find it difficult unless I get the shotgun out regularly.

Puppies bones are still developing until they're close to a year old, best not to keep them in the field too long until they're about 10 months.
@MillerOutdoors1
@MillerOutdoors1 Жыл бұрын
Have to disagree. Canine pups evolved in the field with mom 24/7 until modern domestication. It's hard to make the argument that they need to be coddled with short trips now.

There are a lot of shotguns that will not shoot where aimed, no matter the angle of the stock/receiver relationship. Browning Maxus and Winchester SX serries are just a few, and many Benelli's. Since most people do not line up the barrel, or snug the stock up and in to make aim like a rifle, this makes compensating a must. The cure is simply to put the bead about a foot below the target.

I think the rabbit or hare when they pick up speed they dont leave as much scent on the ground just because they are moving so much faster and leaping greater distances.

It varies on what I'm trolling, but I run between 20 to 50' of 10lb test fluoro to a bead (so can't reel thru eye of rod) then a good trolling swivel and snap, and I pre-make 48 inch leaders of 6lb test fluoro to attach to that with a loop knot on one end and a very small VMC snap for quick lure changes on the other end.

Where can a hunter from Ontario find a breeder producing outstanding snow dogs for northern ontario? I am attending the trial locally here this fall, but welcome your opinion please. Much of our season will see very deep snow, but as I understand it, a larger dog, with grit can do well in the deep snow. You'r take? Thanks!
@MillerOutdoors1
@MillerOutdoors1 2 жыл бұрын
That's the million dollar question. Outstanding snow dogs aren't easy to come by. Maybe 1 in 100 running beagles will make a real snow hound. I've always had to piece together what I could and they're few and far between. I'd suggest talking to hunters and steering clear of the trialers that don't hunt hard during mid winter. You basically want a big, strong dog with a big nose and good head on their shoulders. Dog with strong enough nose probably going to be a lil mouthy when young. If they can't smell it they can't run it so sift through the ones that can and will cold trail when necessary and stay away from the hot nosed trial dogs that all the judges love spring thru fall.
