Thank you so much of sharing your story. I expereinced something similar in regards to teacher stripping my kid of joy. I saw her light dim and her become a shell of a person after preschool. We are so happy and I know she will be cared for and loved. I love the fact that your family makes wishes. Ill have to borrow that idea. Such a beautfiul, heartfelt video.

I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm confused when it comes how you talked about history in the USA. Slavery was worldwide. In the USA 23℅ of free whites owned slave and 28℅ of free blacks owned slaves and higher percentages of native American tribes owned slaves. In fact in 2024 India has the most enslaved people on earth. Indians who look African (untouchables) are forced to stay in the forest, naked. As bus loads of fellow Indians take pictures of them. Like their in a Zoo.

Really silly question, do you just glue their papers into the notebook? We type a lot too, but I’ve just been putting them in a folder, but it’d be great to have them all in one place.
@ProjectHappyHome
@ProjectHappyHome 24 күн бұрын
@@lindseynelson2092 yes and no - some of our writing I paste in, but other things I just transcribe the prompts and let them write in their answers directly to the notebook, esp if it’s only a one sentence prompt or something similar. And we fill out and leave most of the prep pages in the original EM notebook.

Do you think ordering the kit is worth it? Some of the kits have things we already have. Can it be done with just the teacher manual and student book?
@ProjectHappyHome
@ProjectHappyHome Ай бұрын
Hi, I think it varies depending upon the level - I would carefully review the contents and assess for yourself. For example, I would rather have bought some materials myself for Level 3, but Level 1 materials were totally worth it.

1 point I'd disagree with or rather which could be aided by more contextualisation is the part about asking or reminding about the meds. Yes ofc it depends on who and how and why you ask but it can also be a support since forgetting to take them is a very real problem for many and if done in a supportive way can help a lot. Granted, I have less experience with childhood adhd and more with adults but the number of people who have pointed out their partners reminders as a positive impact is huge.

Great video and much needed to hear! I plan on using Miacademy. The program looks great and I'm looking forward to giving it a try plus the Writing with skill since he struggles in that area. You and your son seemed to like it from the vid you posted a year ago. I'm going to be a new home school parent to a soon to be 7th grader. I'm excited and nervous but mostly excited. I have noticed myself wondering, "Is it enough? Am I going to be able to teach him adequately?" A little internal doubt but I've shoved that to the side because my son is excited to be home schooled and I'm excited to be the one to teach him and spend more time with him. These years move too fast and before I know it, he'll be an adult.

I watched your review of SCI from a few years ago. Nancy Larson looks great, but I feel like my kid still needs basics. Did you end up sticking with SCI at all?
@ProjectHappyHome

We did not continue with SCI because my kids are pretty quick at science and they had entered vastly different levels. I still think it’s a great program for those with want help organizing Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding.

And as for basics, I think Nancy Larson provides great scaffolding for that - each level fits several ages, so you may want to gauge each level regardless of grade level.

History can be so hard to pin down, especially if you want to make it a group subject. We have had success with Build Your Library for my bookworm kids, Classical Academic Press for my more textbook-fan kid, and we’ve all done Blossom and Root for US History, as well as Pandia Press and Story of the World (as a facet of BYL). The Core Knowledge readers are also an option. I’m going to review some Mint and Bloom resources soon as well. Check out my history playlist and maybe you will find something that resonates with you!

That’s a pretty tough question, because I suppose it depends on where you think your kiddo lies, phonics and phonemes-wise. If you look into the online version, it continuously assesses what level your kid is at and adjusts in real time.

You have mentioned that you do include Harcourt science textbooks plus Evan moor daily science.. I do love both and include EM daily science as a daily morning science , as the lessons are short and sweet and swift.. I do want to to continue with that as I saw this method of bite-sized to the point introduction to scientific concepts do help my student retain the concept longer... plus I like how nice, conprehensive, and straight forward the Harcourt textbooks are for science in each grade level... My question is, if I am doing Science from both these sources, should I also include science from some other area like you do for science, where you pull from SCI or RSO.. unfortunately, both of these doesnot seem to fit my style of implimentation.. I get lost and my child feels lost too if I am at loss... she like science to the point... My question is:1) Do you think science with only Evan moor and Harcourt will suffice for any grade level or should I supplement it? 2) Have you looked into Core knowledge science units for the grade levels, how do you feel their approach is or why have you not used them as a source for secular science resource? 3) Have you ever looked into Elemental science or their Science Chunks units approach, Do you think they are worth to buy and do along with the other 2 I am doing? 4) Have you tried Oak meadow science units and how do you think it compares to Evan Moor and Harcourt.. can it fill gaps where the other 2 lack ...? Any advice or thoughts from you would be a lot helpful.. trying to find a secular science curriculum which is not experiment heavy is a struggle...
