I will try a simple explanation as to why the wind deflector works: the deflector creates a bubble of (still) air. The air moving over the windscreen flows *over* that "pressurized" still air without mixing with it. Have you ever seen a truck with the tailgate up? Things left loose in the bed don't come out. They may move around a little but they stay inside. There's also no aerodynamic benefit to driving with the gate down. Roof down should be similar to driving with the roof up on the Copen.

I have this on a 65 plate, 60k miles. I bought it as a VW demonstrator at about 8 months old.Annual service, carefully driven, 80mpg on occasion on long journey. Only failure beyond normal service items is a key. Never had a vehicle like it in over 50 years. It is Euro 6 so ULEZ complaint - I received £1390 from VW for my previous car, a polo Tdi SEL for the emission s scandal. Utterly satisfied.
