I remember when I was at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and they had just opened up a time capsule that had letters from doctors from 50 years before on display in the lobby. One of the doctors wrote how happy he was to think that he was writing to people who would have the cures for cancer nailed down and that that Specter of death would be no more. It made me kind of sick to read it because my daughter was upstairs dying of cancer. Just a pointless story that seems to fit.

Well, there’s one advancement McCoy would approve of - the gown Chekov was wearing didn’t open in the back.

They had real Neurosurgeon in this role, he wasn't acting. In fact, he was in a good mood because the Anesthesiologist wasn't needed as Chekov was already unconscious.

2 points here first someone should have reminded bones that they were 300 years in the past in medicine would still be primitive in a lot of ways second Captain Kirk or Admiral Kirk rather should have said the following line it's a hospital what do you expect

I watched this in theater when it came out and have this on VHS, but wouldn't mind seeing it again in theaters. Too bad I missed its 30th and 35th anniversaries, if it did show up.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a close second. But nothing beats the scene where they use the Klingon bird of prey to save George and Gracie from the whalers.

Nice little bit of continuity there at the end - they ditch the gurney just before getting into the elevator, so they can all be standing when they beam into the park and the elevator can be empty when it opens

I think this is one of the most enjoyable to watch Star Trek scenes. It’s fun to see the ‘TJ Hooker’ cops fumbling around and totally unable to catch our heroes.

McCoy said We’re dealing with medievalism. That statement is true. We have two choices. We can have a dystopian Totalitarian future with technology or we can have the Star Trek future. Which one do you want?

I love how, at a fundamental emotional and professional level, McCoy is not so different from the other arguing doctors. The only real difference is, he has access to hundreds of years worth of medical advancements.
