Thank you for posting this! Mr. Thompson shaped my way of thinking about civil rights. I moved away from Stuart a long time ago but the last time I saw Mr. Thompson was in the parking lot of a grocery store, many years after he was my teacher. He remembered me like it was yesterday. Rest In Power Mr. T, I'll always miss you and be ever thankful for what you taught me.

Yes, he was an important figure in Martin County Schools. I recorded this as part of a documentary I had planned on integration in Martin County, one of the few counties in Florida that had few problems during that period.

@@TNGEO we moved out of the Palm City district for a year when I was in my final year there, but my sister had two years to go. We had to lie about where we lived during that year because my mom, a racist, didn't want us attending JD Parker, a predominantly black school. At PCE we had maybe half a dozen non white students, one of which was Mr. and Mrs. Thompson's son David. Going to Stuart Middle School the next year, a school with maybe 10-15% non white students, was a real eye opener and I'm so glad I wasn't sheltered from other races from then on.

@@ashevillecomics637 I went to JD Parker before integration. Back then there was only one white elementary school. MC school system didn't integrate until I was in 7th grade. My concept for the documentary was how the society and especially the high school avoided racial problems like those in St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.

What do you mean govt should of banned them???. The pipes were banned. Why coz before battle they would send a piper out around the English camps playing all night. In hills etc. It scared the English scourge but we scotts slept well being comforted by it. Nxt morning a army to shattered to win. So ban them. Lots of songs were lost. They took away our native tongue too.
