I used to dye wool yarn with acid dye . I would soak the yarn in water with citric acid. This causes the yarn to absorb the color. So you could probably use citric acid in place of the lemon joy
@JeriBellini
@JeriBellini Күн бұрын
I use vinegar instead of the citric acid, the lemon joy just get's the cloth clean (scoured) and prepared for dying.

Can I please ask what is lemon joy, I'm guessing dish washing detergent and does it specifically have to be that brand as it doesn't exist in Australia 😀
@JeriBellini
@JeriBellini Күн бұрын
It's a dishwashing liquid and I've used other types and got good results. Just use something mild.

Hi Jeri. Great video. I love experimenting with dying fabric and acid dyes do give great results. Just to say that if you had added more vinegar with the second wool batch you would probably have got a deeper colour again. Also the acid dyes will dye other fabrics its just that you get the best and brightest colour with the right dyes for the fabric. Also if you had added some salt to the dye bath when adding the cotton this would have helped the cotton to take on more of the dye. Salt does to cotton and linen what vinegar does to silk and wool, it just helps the fabric take up more dye . Enjoy xx
@JeriBellini
@JeriBellini 3 күн бұрын
Hi Diane, thanks for the info on the cotton fabrics I'll try the salt next time when I've finished using the dye for the wool. The second batch was a different color altogether but I did add more cloth to the batch so all the dye was absorbed. I'm sorry I didn't make that clearer in the video, I added that clip after the fact to show that the dye would get absorbed IF there was more cloth in the pot. Sounds like you do your fair share of dying, it's fun isn't it?!! I love it! I"ll be doing more tomorrow, I"m on a roll! 💜💜💜

Good job, Jeri. Organizing all our "stuff" always feel great, along with promises to get rid of it but everything seems so precious to us creative makers, so tidying up is our version of minimalism.

You talk about Campers - REALLY. This is a nice size home when you can afford space for a studio. Your house is not that tiny in comparison to new build properties in the UK. I have seen sitting rooms around 15 feet long by 12. No other rooms except kitchen bath and bedrooms. This is a gorgeous place to be in. Enjoy.

Hi I have gone crazy making pouches! My grandson grabbed the first one because it was blue( he’s 9) then my granddaughter wanted one. And I decided to make some for Christmas. And now my husband’s family are coming for a reunion. I have 5 sister in-laws so I made more. I love that they turn out so pretty and I haven’t bought anything but needles. I think that I’ve completed 10. I used a paper grocery bag to make the circle patterns and wrote the directions on the large circle. I have about six more cut out. My sewing hand has gotten very strong. I live in Oregon.
