Jerry Dean I did send them an email to which they responded that it was a “pinch flat”. Unfortunately a pinch flat is pretty rare and as often as I got a flat, I was able to rule out it being a pinch flat. I know this video has been shared among the community as a fix for the rim tape flats for the S1 series. I’d bet this won’t be an issue on the s2 or R series bikes.

lovechild - bikes like any other form of transportation need regular maintenance regardless of the manufacturer. I’ve found Super 73 to be a fantastic company with excellent customer service. This video is not meant to dissuade you from purchasing from them, but instead meant to inform you of an oversight and how to correct it. In my opinion, Super 73 makes some of the best ebikes on the market and I’ve tried many. Today, May 11th, is supposed to be when they start shipping the brand new RX and R series bikes. It does have different tires on it so I’m hoping I don’t have any flats related to rim tape. I’ll certainly update you guys with a review once I receive mine. Happy biking!

@@ctomp1984 Oh okay, and how many hours or km can I use the bike before the battery dies? And does it goes faster than 25 kph? Because their official site in the US and here in EU says it goes up to 25 kph max, but I've seen some reviewers saying it goes faster than that, so I'm really confused. And sorry for the questions sir, hope you don't mind. Looking forward for the RX review, thanks!

lovechild they have a pretty awesome comparison view on their website which is really helpful to decide which one is right for you. I typically get 35-40 miles out of a full charge using medium pedal assist, but keep in mind that there are many factors contributing to range such as road conditions, rider weight, and mode the bike is in. As an example, I’m a pretty big dude pushing about 275lbs and the only time I notice some slowdown is going uphill, but it’s completely fine while using pedal assist. On flat dry surfaces like asphalt, I can easily hit 25+mph in high mode. Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m always happy to help. Cheers

@@ctomp1984 I was looking to get the Z1 at first, but we can't even take out the battery plus I want to put a milk crate (not sure what they're called exactly) on the back to put in my stuff which is really handy, so I'm pretty sure I'm going for the S1. I just hope the S1 isn't gonna be too high for me since I'm only 164 ish cm and weight about 50 kg. I'm definitely coming back here once I get my bike. Super excited now. It is a very well built bike and tons of fun. I actually own 2 of them and I'm thinking about getting a third. Just note that you may need to fix the rim tape. FWIW, I have not had any issues with these bikes except the rim tape issue, which after fixing has 100% mitigated the problem. I hope this helps you out man. Cheers

I'm not sure if they have addressed the issue or not, but the important thing to remember is that owning a bike is like owning a car, which at some point will require maintenance. I now know a lot more about the mechanics of my bike and feel confident working on it. If anything, that's the silver lining.

Ralphy Vivier that’s a bummer man. It’s possible that you may be getting a flat from something else. Maybe check the inside liner of the tire for any debris like a metal shaving. If your flats look like what I showed in my video then you may need to trim your rim tape a bit more. The important part is to make sure you don’t have any edges of the rim tape in a position that may rub against your tube. Also make sure you’re running around 22-25psi.

I was going to comment that I had a similar problem but they fixed it for free.... but then I thought maybe you need some advice, 27 minute video, not good, it could have been 3 but you made it too personal, and also too detailed. Hi Dustin, I appreciate the feedback, subjective as it is. While I am not an expert either, many other riders may or may not need a detailed version, but keep in mind that this video was meant to be comprehensive, thus making it 27 minutes. Perhaps bookmarks would help someone like yourself in future to get to the major points quickly? Kindest regards

@dustinbossmusic 5 жыл бұрын
@@ctomp1984 Yes bookmarks, or just write in the description where to skip to in order to get to the major details. I understand its opinion based, but I wouldn't subscribe to a channel with videos that are over 10 minutes, unless they really need to be longer. Also I like that you had a cameraman, but have him move around less or just get another camera and set up tri-pods so the picture is stable. Thank you for trying to understand my feedback, I only say it to help your future videos. Cheers.

Ty Drones I think in many cases you won’t be able to repair the tube. I say this because the cut is long and narrow and patch kits are typically used for punctures. Excellent tutorial, thanks. Did everything but had an issue when I tried to get the wheel back into its slot. The tension from the chain prevents the wheel to lock into place equally on both sides. The side with the chain just wouldn't go as deep in. Is there a way to work around this?
@ctomp1984
@ctomp1984 6 жыл бұрын
Noel Yeo the tire was never all the way back in the groves to begin with. Those groves are longer that the width of the wheel bolts to allow you some wiggle room to adjust the chain tension. I had the same experience with both of my scouts, so I just equaled out the distance on both sides. I have now put about 600 miles on each bike after this fix and have not had 1 flat. Hope this helps. Cheers

Just did this fix. When mounting my rear wheel back on I centered it to the chain stays (same distance each side) but then my disc brake was rubbing and I couldnt adjust it enough to stop the rubbing. I ended up having to loosen the wheel nut and angling the wheel a little more to one side so the disc would glide through the disc brake. I didnt measure before I took it apart but maybe it wasnt centered to begin with. Did you have the same issue with the wheel having to be slightly off center so the brakes didnt rub?
@ctomp1984
@ctomp1984 6 жыл бұрын
DENSUTUBE2008 I did have to adjust the placement of the rear wheel a few times before I got it just right, but I don’t recall having any issues with the disc break rubbing. Did you happen to make sure you have the washers to the inside of the frame? Those should help keep the disc centered in the pad. I know there’s still some forwards and backwards give, but you should be able to get it just right. If that doesn’t work, you may need to make some adjustments to your rear brake. Just make sure your wheel is angled when it’s reattached. It should spin without any wobble if it’s straight.
@DENSUTUBE2008
@DENSUTUBE2008 6 жыл бұрын
Yes washers and all parts are in place. I centered the wheel and thats what caused the issue. I had to slightly put the wheel off center / so the disc would be centred in the pad. I tried adjusting the brake it self but only way it wouldnt rub with the wheel centered true to the frame was if I opened the calipers all the way so no brake. Thats when I noticed the disc was on a slight angle so I shifted the wheel closer to one side slightly which straightened the disc so it would spin true through the pads. Just wondered if other people noticed having there wheel not perfectly centered. Measure from rim to side of chain stay both sides. Im thinking the bracket the brake bolts to the frame is off center causing the brake itself to be angled or the frame is not symmetrical.

DENSUTUBE2008 I’ll have to measure mine to see. I didn’t prior to removing the wheel so it’s possible that mines off center too.

This is not their fault. I'm not saying its your fault, its no ones. Bikes are not designed to be maintenance free, thats impossible. I was a bike mechanic for 7 years, been mountain biking for 15 years, every bike requires up keep. To anyone in your last video that said they're going to cancel their order because of this, please don't, thats incredibly silly. Theres no manufacturer in the world that could prevent this in every case. Seems like this is just a one case issue, I haven't seen anyone else bring it up? I'm sorry this happened to you, I think you were right to put gorilla tape on it to prevent it from happening again, but I would have just done that and left it there. I realize that the customer base for these bikes are typically people that don't ride or work on bikes because Lithium is in new unique segment of the market (which is why they've been doing so well). But please don't blame anyone, having flat tires is a part of riding any type of bike so just fix it and get back to riding. However, I'm not sold that you should be running that much pressure in a fat tire wheel, thats what you would run in a typical mountain bike wheel where fat tire mountain bikes take like 7psi or something? Keep in mind that mountain bike wheels aren't 20", they're 26"- 29" for fat tires so that extra volume allows for that, but 20-30psi sounds very high for a fat tire bike to me.

The tyres on the Super 73 v1 bikes are 4 1/4 inch wide BUT the Tyres on the S1 bikes are only 4 inch wide - Are the factory using the same rim tape for both bikes? If they are then maybe this is the reason for the excess rim tape (we cut off about 1/8 inch from both sides and now the rim tape sits fine!!). Some input from the factory would be good at this point please...
@ctomp1984

Super 73 UK I’m not sure on that actually. I do know that in the S1 paperwork, it does state that you should use 4”x4.25” tires. I double checked my rose ave and s1 paperwork and both say the same thing. I think I might explore their new forum a bit and see if there are any other users experiencing the same issue. My wife posted a link to my video under their flat tire threads, so I’m hoping an administrator is on there chatting as well.

The tyres fitted to the UK bike are 20 x 4 inch as it is stamped on the side of the tyres. As for the tubes they have the following info stamped on them: E9271209 1.30mm. It may be that the tyre specs for the UK market are different to the USA? It would be really good if the factory could clarify the issue & also reply to some of the comments here.

Super 73 UK I think you’re right. Probably a difference between the UK and USA version. I believe there are several other differences as well such as the wheel nuts being 21mm USA and 22mm UK?

I agree totally and came to same conclusion when I had it happen to me. I was running 25 psi and it left me stranded 9 mile from home when it happened. Solution is for LC to acknowledge this issue and to send out properly sized rim tape replacements and or your solution in the mean time. Also seem to be only the rear wheels affected probably because of the extra weight from the motor and rider sitting over it. Lot of weight on the rear wheel.
